Baseball and some basketball gives you reasons why fully guaranteed deals aren’t the best for the sport. Great for the players, but not all of them are built to want to be great or have the body to sustain greatness.

NFL always keeps players on their toes and treats running backs and linebackers like sh1t when it comes to pay days. But it prevents guys who can’t run a 4.5 to linger on the team and swallow up cap space

The surgery, which he underwent in 2021, removed a rib and two muscles from his neck. As recently as last summer, Strasburg couldn’t stand for long before his right hand went numb. He often had to lie down and press his hand against his chest to be a warped version of comfortable.

For all that he has accomplished in a remarkable career—1,470 regular-season innings pitched, 1,723 strikeouts, a career WHIP of 1.096, three All-Star teams, the World Series MVP, all with the team that drafted him first overall in 2009

Bro was called the Lebron James of baseball. When he came out he was legit.

I will never forget his debut he lived up to the hype like a mf. Had lil n1ggas in the hood checking for him. I wish he never hurt his arm and I’m not a baseball fan but I probably would’ve been more if dude never got hurt.

Yeah, it was crazy because the Nats got Strasburg and Bryce Harper in back to back drafts..
That sh1t was like the baseball equivalent of getting Lebron James and Shaq back to back....
They ended up losing both early

Shame he was the MLB's verison of High School Lebron coming into the league. The biggest hype in baseball. Before Ohtani. And it's not like he wasn't good or a bust. Injuries took him out early. Battled back but injuries is an athletes worst enemy. At least he got paid. But I do wonder how much insurance covered. He already battled major injury before that contract. Can be hard to get insurance on that long term contract like it was for the Mets and Giants getting one on Carlos Correa's ankle.

Insurance is taking care of a lot of that. He’s probably the reason why insurance didn’t want to approve that Correa deal.

Strasberg and Chris Davis by a mile. Currently gotta be Lindor. A below replacement level sack of sh1t on the most overrated team in baseball.

The Nats have absolutely zero insurance coverage on his deal. They have to pay him every dollar he's owed, plus there's 3 years of deferred payments after. Imagine losing Turner, Harper, and Mad Max and the lone guy you kept was Strasburg. Similar to Oakland never being able to keep their guys and the one dude they ended up paying was Eric Chavez and he immediately was injured the rest of his career.

That one world series win combined with his 7-8 years of great pitching, makes the contract worth it on both sides imo

If they paid them what they were worth sooner than 10 years, this type of sh1t wouldn't happen as much lol

As an athlete once said, the deal they give you now is your reward for what you've done for us

Winning the chip for the Nats, there's no amount of money in the world Washington could give him that would be enough. They're sad his career is over, but they're not tripping
