Shame he was the MLB's verison of High School Lebron coming into the league. The biggest hype in baseball. Before Ohtani. And it's not like he wasn't good or a bust. Injuries took him out early. Battled back but injuries is an athletes worst enemy. At least he got paid. But I do wonder how much insurance covered. He already battled major injury before that contract. Can be hard to get insurance on that long term contract like it was for the Mets and Giants getting one on Carlos Correa's ankle.

Imagine losing Turner, Harper, and Mad Max and the lone guy you kept was Strasburg. Similar to Oakland never being able to keep their guys and the one dude they ended up paying was Eric Chavez and he immediately was injured the rest of his career.

That one world series win combined with his 7-8 years of great pitching, makes the contract worth it on both sides imo
