Meh, talk to me when guys are struggling in training camp with the pads on and the competition kicked in gear.
A lot of players stand out in OTAs/mini camps and never make an impact on the field. Lots of guys struggle at this point in the offseason program and go on to be high impact guys….. you can’t put much into this phase of the offseason.
Lance has all the tools. He’s young. The injury took a lot of time away from his development and he’s got to find his way and get back into groove. He’s a boom or bust prospect at the end of the day though. We all knew that coming in….. Niners staff did as well that’s why they’ve held onto insurance.
With Purdy you know you have a guy who can read the field well, play within the system, and deliver on target when called upon. He’s not going to make many mistakes. The ceiling, however, is obviously more limited. You can say what you want about that coaching staff and stacked Niners team, but what he did last season was impressive as fu#k.
Niners have a solid steady young QB and a high ceiling/potential boom or bust young QB prospect. With their defense and the surrounding weapons/OL on offense and a great coaching staff…. That’s a good position to be in. They’ll contend either way.
