this is actually kinda interesting beef

Nolan has been a big proponent of IMAX, he invented a new IMAX camera for Tenet, Oppenheimer was shot all on IMAX and he was scheduled in way before Cruise

This makes sense: Christopher Nolan is basically an unpaid brand ambassador for IMAX. He shot Oppenheimer entirely with the IMAX large-format cameras, and Universal dated the Nolan film in his usual late July slot in 2021 well before Mission 7 was dated in early 2022, following four separate Covid delays. Universal was quick to negotiate that exclusive IMAX window.
but then you got Cruise's movie which will do bigger numbers and is designed for IMAX, plus Top Gun did big numbers for theaters

But Cruise is used to getting what he wants (except an Oscar, of course) and I’m told he has expressed his extreme displeasure that the distribution waters aren’t being parted for the guy who “saved” theaters, as Spielberg famously declared.

After all, Mission 7 will likely end up grossing more overall than Oppenheimer, putting IMAX in an odd spot and allowing Cruise to argue it makes business sense to give him the best screens. Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick last year grossed $110 million of its $1.49 billion global haul in IMAX theaters

lose lose for IMAX, unless nolan is humble about it

Its not a crazy thing to say top gun will outperform Oppenheimer, it makes sense business wise

Tom Cruise makes popcorn garbage and Nolan makes masterpieces. But maybe if all you care about is money (which is what companies do) then it does make sense

It wasn’t that long ago that summer could support multiple blockbusters - not sure why one of them couldn’t have been slotted for Memorial Day?

Nah... See that's my point. Tom Cruise is more a Michael Jackson compared to his peers but we just treat him like a good action star.

I was wondering why Twitter was slandering him most of this morning. I'm not even into this weird thing where you get on a celebrity over reports anyway.

I posted in December about how crowded the Summer is, especially June and July as usual. If this report is true, I don't blame him.

Paramount's 2nd week with MI will take a massive dip due to Warner and Universal releasing their 2nd Summer contenders the following week.

The interesting part is not the numbers, it's the fact that Universal and Warner been flooding the marketing since April, while Paramount don't really turn the marketing up til the middle of this month.

They have a couple ads scheduled for that time. This is publicity in itself, but this kind can backfire with public opinion.

I feel you, but I dont think its underrated. Film heads recognize Jerry McGuire, Vanilla Sky, A Few Good Men.
My fav Tom movie is Eyes Wide Shut, his drama & comedies just arent as impactful as his action. Because of the physicality we know he puts in.

Adam Sandler for example I think is a waaaay better drama actor that that goofy a$s white boy comedy he does.
RIP, Chadwick will be remembered for becoming the biopic goat & Black Panther. None of them other films.

He been in the action / sci fi bag for the last 3 decades but he can Act and he is very good. Once he winds down his action days I’d like to see him back in some drama, thriller roles

False, Cruise was already considered a "great" actor before he even started taking straight action roles.

Just off the top of my head without googling

Risky Business, Rainman and A Few Good Men.
