Not saying this is the reason but I'll throw this out there for educational/historical purposes... I've heard stories of labels having artist doing "promo tours" for free based on the the label telling the artist it would be good promo. Artist not knowing any better, trying to build their career, thinking it would get them out the hood, give them a chance to travel etc. would do it. The label would pay for their travel, hotels and give em a few dollars for food. What the artist didn't know was that the label was the one getting ALL of the show money while the artist didn't know of any of the business involved. This bs might still go on to this day. This situation MAY have been something similar.

The fallout with Big Syke was rumored to have been something similar when Pac got to DR. Frank Alexander said that Pac wanted Syke to wait to until Pac got his Makaveli/Euthanasia label up and running to sign him but Syke went to Suge behind his back and tried to sign to DR. After that, Pac was done with Syke.
The Biggie situation is also similar with Big claiming Thug Life and then ditching that exclusively for Bad Boy. I don't know if Pac wanted to sign him too (or if he even could) but he definitely put in on the artist development side to want to get something out of it. |

The music industry is grimey. This reminds me of the Meg The Stallion situation with Crawford and Roc Nation.

Pac had too many legal issues and told Big he should sign with Badboy Pac was promoting Badboy, letting him open at his shows, wearing Bad Boy merch for his love for Biggie Pac was one of Bigs biggest supporters introduced him to Snoop, Sway and many more There would be no BIG without a Pac.... Radio was king. Without Shock G and Digital Underground, there would be no Tupac. Because not only was he on stage dancing, they featured him on a huge single. Major radio play. Truth about Big and Pac they had no hit records together so the public didnt even know they were close like that. It wasnt until 1. BIG rapid sucess with "Ready to Die" 2. Tupac tell all interview in the VIBE ironically named "Ready to Live". Just from the title alone you see the play was for VIBE to capitalize off of BIGs publicity. And of course Tupac didnt dissappoint riding "Who Shot Ya" narritive and implicating Bad Boy playing a role in the Quad shooting. Truth is Pac fame skyrocketted due to the controversy with the number 1 artist, BIG, who was EVERYWHERE thanks to BADBOY. Without BIG, Bad Boy Records, "Who Shot Ya" Tupac wouldve remained a B list rapper that labels dropped.
