Disney fires Marvel chairman Ike Perlmutter

A Disney spokesperson confirmed to visit this link Deadline that longtime Marvel Entertainment chairman Ike Perlmutter is out of the company. Ike mainly oversaw comic book publishing, merchandising, consumer products (such as video games and toys), etc.

He is not involved in the film division (which reports directly to Disney). Current Marvel president Dan Buckley is reportedly remaining in his position, and will report directly to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Marvel Entertainment will now operate solely under the Disney corporate umbrella.

If you don't know, Ike ruled Marvel with an iron fist for years. He steered the company through the 90's when they were at the brink of bankruptcy. He was the one who spearheaded its sale to Disney back in 2009. His influence started to wain when he clashed with Feige over the original Doctor Strange film. This led to Bob Iger (the head of The Walt Disney Company) essentially splitting "Marvel Studios" from its original parent company, making it 100% a Disney entity.

One could argue this has been a long time coming, seeing as his power in the company decreased steadily over the years. However, the real reason for this firing is Disney is losing money. This cut is just one of 7k that'll be instituted in the very near future. This is part of Bob Iger's plan to cut $5.5B in spending.

What this means for Marvel Studios and the MCU remains unclear. It does seem that Disney will be more frugal in its spending going forward, and that will end up hitting the MCU sooner rather than later, one would a*sume.

Good. About time. Dude is beyond out of touch and it never made sense for him to be involved in sh*t. Gotta thank him though because he stressed out Feige enough for Iger to make a move and put the respect on Feige’s name.

Perm is also the reason Inhumans went from a movie to show.

Was about to say the same thing. At that level he is walking away with a nice a*s parachute and most likely won’t need to work again

I don't feel sorry for him but understand something bro, it's not about 'money' for these guys.

Ike hasn't hard to work for decades. His standard of living and quality of life wouldn't have changed if he was fired from Marvel eons ago.

At a certain point it stops being about money for these guys, it's about power and influence. They are enriching their egos not their bank accounts. It's not about the money. These guys, guys like Ike, are rich beyond belief.

I've been hearing about this n*gga for years. He gives to Trump

Apparently for years he's the 1 that pushes back & tries to stall all the diversity (non white) projects.

Didn't want to move out of the way of progression. Disney & him just finally reached an agreement for him to peacefully GTFO
