![]() ![]() March 22 (Reuters) - Florida is looking to expand its ban on teaching young children about s*xual orientation and gender identity issues to include all students in its public schools under a new rule set for a vote by the state Board of Education next month. The proposed rule is the latest move by the administration of Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to seek his party's 2024 nomination for president, to limit or prohibit instruction on topics conservatives consider inappropriate for the state's classrooms. Last year, DeSantis signed a Republican-backed measure that banned classroom instruction on s*xual orientation and gender identity for students in kindergarten through third grade. Critics denounced what they dubbed the "don't say gay" bill. The Florida Department of Education's new proposal, which would not require legislative approval, would extend the ban through the 12th grade. The proposal drew swift criticism on Wednesday from Democrats and LGBTQ rights activists, with White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre calling the proposal "completely, utterly, wrong." Equality Florida said the rule was advancing DeSantis' political agenda at the expense of diverse families and educators. Under the rule, teachers could face disciplinary action if they discuss s*xual orientation or gender identity outside of mandated curriculum or health courses that parents have been briefed on and given the option to keep their children out of class for those lessons. "There is no reason for instruction on s*xual orientation or gender identity to be part of K-12 public education. Full stop," DeSantis spokesperson Bryan Griffin tweeted on Wednesday. ![]() |

Can we just go back to the policy of "don't ask, don't tell"? Who tf cares what these people do behind closed closets. Just keep that sh*t away from kids and larger society.
Honestly, I don't understand why they are pushed and pampered by big government so damn much. There's an obvious agenda going on, and it isn't due to "FreEdOM!" |

![]() I've taught in 3 different schools in 3 different cities and there have been gay students at every single one. Their classmates are around it every single day.

They purposefully don't define instruction so that parents have more leeway to sue schools and teachers. Under the current wording of the bill, even informal conversations about a gay teacher's partner can be construed as instruction. DeSantis is trying to erase the existence of LGBTQ students from Florida schools. Insidious.

I hate to break it to you, but kids in schools are around gay sh*t because there are plenty of kids who are gay. Especially at the middle school and high school level. Even the boys who aren't gay like doing gay sh*t to their homies and claiming they ain't gay. It's like a fun game boys from love to play. It's how I ended up having to monitor bathrooms last year during passing periods as the boys kept busting into busy stalls or grabbing each other from behind while using urinals. And all of them were loud as sh*t in the hall claiming they weren't gay and accusing their homies of being gay. Last edited by Tlatoani; 03-23-2023 at 05:42 AM..

Why do you religious people like making kids out to be complete dumbasses? s*xual orientation and gender are pretty simple concepts to understand. And you teach it because of what LGBTQ kids go through at schools. More likely to report not feeling welcome, more likely to report being bullied, more likely to report being suicidal, and more likely to actually commit suicide. So the whole idea is if you want to root out discrimination that leads to child suicides, then you need to educate the populace. If the argument is that homos*xuality is a mental illness, then pretending all these kids don't exist and don't deserve respect makes whoever argues that sh*t look like a piece of sh*t human being.
