I could picture J-Hood having a successful food cart business, shame he wasted so much time trying to rap.

The thing is….a lot of mixtape rappers like J Hood had some dope verses, but couldn’t make songs to sell records for sh*t.

Lets say he never dragged the chain.. would he have been successful nah not at all but he would of stayed with dblock and built his own connections and fan base over time. Eventually streaming comes around and now his mixtapes are albums. Wouldnt need sample clearances bc no one would care and boom homie would get his nice lil 10-15k on tunecore here and there and be like a dave east or something

They should have still put the album out.

Let US decide if is music is good enough by putting it out.

They also should have put him on Jada's album. They was taking him out of videos and everything.

He had a buzz because he was signed to the Lox. No single gave him a buzz. He was a mixtape featured artist signed to the Lox. He dropped a couple solos that was forgotten when the next mixtape dropped. Everyone wants to drop albums without a fanbase to buy it. It cost money to put it out there. Especially on an independent mixtape label. They have to recoup their investment. He had no cross over hits or appeal. He was a young mixtape rapper spitting hard lyrics he didn't live. His biggest buzz was dragging the Lox chain then getting robbed. Without the Lox stamp, you wouldn't had been a fan. You wouldn't had heard him.

Lox had a bunch of rappers from Yonkers on their mixtape that didn't sign with them. They knew whats up. Only so much an artist can do for another artist when that artist isn't selling millions himself. Especially if he still trying to be an artist himself. You a side project. Side money. It is what it is and it happened so long ago

n*ggas don't understand that mixtape era was like purgatory era for rappers. You see joe budden one one of the kings of that era and he had to change his profession to pop. Papoose had to become a professional husband It's a sad reality

They Def gave him a chance what do you mean.
I'm not even gonna comment on their beef and what might have or might not have happened behind the scenes cuz I dunno anything about that.
Lox might never have been at the top of the mainstream but they were hot as he'll at the time j hood was around. And they absolutely were pushing him he was on songs with them, mixtapes and sh*t, they brought him everywhere, made sure his name was known. Even after the beef he should've been able to maneuver and keep that going if he was smart.
Maybe there was some bad sh*t in his contract that made him not be able to do much I really don't know but the only reason people even know who j hood was is cuz of the lox

French is also a example of the difference of when u already got ya own money/resources (aka LEVERAGE) when u start fu*kin wit labels..as opposed to starvin lookin for a deal.

Hood to me comes across like those guys who blame others for everything and hang onto the past. Maybe they do owe him mone but louch has a point he’s had 18 years to find success somewhere, it didn’t have to be music.
