![]() I'm going to be honest-I don't remember that many details about it because it's been so long (I literally just noticed its been 20 years) and things were so frantic that day, that alot of things were a blur so hopefully BX vets on here can chime in and share their experiences on this also, but I'm going to try.
After doing some research, I can't honestly say whether this happened on Jan. 26th, 2003 (which was a Sunday), or if it was Jan. 28th, which was a Tuesday. I lean toward Tuesday, but supposedly there was a rip that dropped on the 26th, as a 'Pre-Superbowl' surprise. You see back then, people would label bullsh*t like it was the highly anticipated album only to make you get it, and realize it was some BS. Whatever day it was that I remember, it was the actual day it dropped because BX quite literally, ended up getting so much traffic it was knocked the hell offline at a certain point. EVERYBODY had been anticipating this release, from the bootleggers to the fans that couldn't get enough of 50 and G-Unit at that point, to even people like me who thought this n*gga was overhyped like a mothafu*ka, but wanted to see if it was going to deliver. I want to say I believe it was around 6 P.M. that night, when people started posting that the album had been ripped. Back then, damn near every release was TWO WEEKS prior to it hitting stores, or at least a week. If you knew where to find releases, you were looked at like a god by the peons who were using sites like Limewire, Bearshare, Kazaa etc. because at least from what I remember, those sites didn't really have whole albums, much less scene releases. One group in particular, who was THE STANDARD for getting quality releases [spoiler - click to view] was the one who actually ripped it. EVERYBODY was in a damn frenzy trying to grab it. There were various ways tracks got hosted, and most people back then (myself included) did NOT have high speed internet, so they're trying to get real audio files ![]() ![]() Anyway, most people knew it was a classic album on first listen. The hype was something never really seen before, except maybe by Snoop's Doggystyle album and I'm not sure if that is even true. For at least six to nine months, that album was literally heard EVERYWHERE you would go. Clubs would play damn near the whole album, it got pumped out of cars riding by etc. Tracks were always played on TV, freestyles over the beats etc. I was never really a fan, but it had a few jams. This was originally supposed to come out on Feb. 11th of that year, but they had to push it up to the 6th because of the HEAVY bootlegging that was occurring. But to be honest, I don't think it hurt sales that much because people just wanted to HEAR it...they were still going to support. For the record, I never downloaded it myself. My boys would just let me hear the copies they had. ![]() Anyway old heads, share your stories about this release/rip etc. ![]() 1. "Intro" 2. "What Up Gangsta" 3. In January, 2003, Glover leaked 50 Cent’s official début, “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” to Kali. It became the bestselling U.S. album of the year. He followed that up with albums from Jay Z, G Unit, Mary J. Blige, Big Tymers, and Ludacris, and then began the following year with Kanye West’s début, “The College Dropout.” | |

Was in HS and at that time CD burners still wasnt around and affordable like that.I had one in 2000 and it was on $2000 Computer. When 50 cd drop it was maybe 4-5 people in school with 1 but I was already that dude. Idk how many I sold but enough to make $3500-$5000.Cause I remember using that money and buying my 1st car. CD was fire and played the hell out of it so much I rarely listened to it after years later.Idk if its really been a Huge buzz for a star or cd since.Maybe wayne cd but he was established already |

I think it was that Sunday that it leaked. I remember when I got it I called all my friends, burned it to a disc, and we went riding around pg county that sunday night blasting it everywhere.
It was good day. Cant remember if I got it from Jukebox or elsewhere. Probably here. Ive been on this joint since 2002. As far as watch the throne, pretty much all the leaks were from kanye's MBDTF sessions. Nothing from WTT proper leaked early, and I think a big part of it was because they released it online before they released the physical.. if im not mistaken, I remember it popping up on streaming a week or 2 before the physicals were in stores. |

That album is what brought me to BX, back in 03. At first, I was on like D12sWorld and other sites like that -- wasn't even a fan of them n*gga's, it was just about getting the newest and latest music. I stumbled on BX, in search of that 50 album, and been on this bi*ch every since.
I still got my access to my account from back then, too. Cept his site got heavy on the troll side at one point, and someone said some racist sh*t & I responded back on some fu*k you too type vibe, and somehow my account ended up getting banned. I got Ronnie to reverse/unban it, cus my account got banned on some fu*k sh*t and he did. Cept, I felt too wronged about it even getting banned in the first place, so I just switched up and got a new account -- matter fact, I still gotta whoop that n*gga a*s, now I think about it. |
