People thought me and the wife were crazy because until about 3 years ago our cars were a 2005 Toyota Prius and a 2008 Ford Focus and we both had good jobs.
Sometimes she wanted to deviate from the plan too but I had to keep her focused.
In 2020, before prices got crazy, we went out and got a 2018 Prius IV for our everyday (I’m remote so don’t drive) and a 2018 Lexus RX 350 (w/ luxury package, family car) and paid cash.
She wasn’t really feeling the Prius and has always wanted a Toyota RAV 4 XSE white with the black rims… said she didn’t want to be a Prius driver the rest of her life. We just found a 2022 hybrid they were trying to get off lot with 24k miles, and they gave me 2k more for the Prius than I paid for it. Ended up only costing me 14k difference…cash.
I got asked the other day what we pay per month and they didn’t believe me when I said nothing, we own our cars.
It all started with patience and a plan.
Having no car payments make you have so much extra monthly money it becomes so easy to save. And owning your newer model cars means in about 4-5 years when it is time to upgrade again, it doesn’t cost nearly anything because we always buy used.
