It still feels weird to write about Uncharted(opens in new tab) in the sacred pages of a PC gaming site, but I guess I won't have to much longer. In an interview with Buzzfeed(opens in new tab) (via GamesRadar(opens in new tab)), Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann said that the studio is "moving on" from the series, so I guess Nathan Drake's adventure over to the PC(opens in new tab) is set to be the least one he has for the foreseeable future. The comments came in the context of a discussion about the free-reign that Sony gives Naughty Dog over which projects it pursues. Druckmann said that, although "Uncharted was insanely successful," and Uncharted 4 was one of the studio's best-selling games, he didn't feel pressure from Sony to keep churning out new games in the series. Naughty Dog was "able to put [its] final brushstroke on that story and say that [its] done". Of course, it'd be strange if being one of Sony's most renowned and successful developers didn't afford you a little leeway in picking your own projects. So farewell Drake and Sully, but Druckmann is decidedly less definite about the future of The Last of Us. He says that a potential Last of Us 3 depends on whether or not Naughty Dog can conjure up a "compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love — just like the first and second game did". If it can, then it "will tell that story," if not, there's already "a very strong ending with Part 2 and that will be the end". I can't say I'm torn up about the prospect of Uncharted entering retirement, if indeed it truly is. Those games are impressive showpieces with a lot of talent and production value behind them, but it's a series that feels like it's very much run its course at this point. I do hope that we at least get the rest of the games on PC—the Legacy of Thieves Collection only included Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy—before the series goes into that good night, though. As for The Last of Us, well, we're getting the first game's remake this March, and I'd bet you anything Part 2 won't be too far behind. The series is going from strength to strength right now, thanks to the popularity of its recently-aired HBO series, so I imagine Naughty Dog will manage to figure out that next story and its "statement about love" before too long. Hope they leave last of us be if they don’t have a story on the level of 1 or 2. I’m grateful for 2 and like where they took the story but I do think ending it where 1 did woulda been ill too

Personally, I want them done with The Last of Us also after the multiplayer and just let it sleep for a while.

The Last of Us can definitely run for 2 more games. There are so many different stories to tell within the universe and the studio can even move on to a completely new set of characters since this was a worldwide pandemic and not exclusive to the U.S.

Lowkey they could even keep it in the U.S. and still make a compelling story; who is to say that Ellie was the only person immune to the virus?

There may be someone at another hospital in the southeast who has access to a vaccine, new mutated humans to encounter, towns, etc.

The possibilities are endless… but no more than 2 additional games to close the series

Gotcha. I personally wouldn’t be surprised if they used this incoming multiplayer to incorporate Tommy and Ellie in some way. Maybe as NPCs, who knows, but I’m more ready for the multiplayer than a sequel, but that’s cause I’m one of the ones that thought the 2nd ones story was woke-trash that could’ve been way better than it was.

I finished them all myself, but kinda off topic I never finished the 'Uncharted: The Lost Legacy' at all.

It's still collecting dust on the shelf in my man cave.

Exactly the same just copped a 5 yesterday and thought to download the game but still not interested and uncharted was one of my games don't know why I didn't fukk with that one and play it all

Litteraly the only 2 games i really enjoyed on ps5. This sh*t is a joke. I just looked at the upcoming ps5 releases thd next 6 months and i dont see jack crap i like. Might as well unplug the ps5 til next august or september

they specifically they werent going to announce any progress or dates because it puts undue pressure on the devs and it eventually ruins morale from forcing people to work late and not having a good work/home balance and in the end it doesnt produce a better product and is more likely ship an unpolished product

If uc4 sold well, they'd make another. But they ran out of the story to tell.
