1. MJ was the team's number 1 offensive option. The opponent's strategy is often to attack that option to weaken their legs and/ or get them in foul trouble. 2. Even if MJ DID take on the main offensive threat, which was Pippen's role, he's still only slowing a single player. This isn't properly utilizing Jordan's range of influence allowed by his athleticism and instincts. 3. As someone that demanded a LOT of defensive attention, it's wise to get Jordan as many opportunities to get "in front" of the defense as possible. 1v1, 2v1, 3v2, etc. were all scenarios where Jordan could get easy finishes at the rim, get to the line or both. 4. iirc, his attempt to press Magic was a failure but, outside of smaller, shifty point guards, Jordan handled himself very well when placed in those "#1 vs #1" match-ups. He never showed a fear in stepping up to the challenge. | |
