It def wasn't bankable, according to the Avi Arad types of the world, so she not completely wrong on the merits. But clearly there were plenty of female led movies before Hunger Games. Not only female led, but box office/cultural smashes like Alien and Terminator (though Arnold was def the main draw for the latter).

The truth is Hunger Games was a water shed moment for Hollywood in much the same way Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Black Panther were; in that it showed film execs audiences would absolutely show up for XYZ, despite conventional wisdom that XYZ was not gonna do numbers.
