DJ Quik is a legend in his own right. Dr Dre is just more well known outside of rap fans, especially cause of a*sociation with Eminem

Arguably he's right. I do think Quik is a better producer than Dre, but to some degree, maybe he just didn't do what he needed to do earlier in his career to get to that level. But Quik can also come off delusional to some degree. I remember he did an interview and said Pac was jealous of the love he got when he opened for him. Kind of gotta give him the side eye after that...

There was a mixtape version of this song before it came out. I remember Quik saying "Sometimes I have to wear the bulletproof vest / because I got the TTP sign written across my chest".
I haven't heard or seen it since.

Quik's one of the greatest producers of all time.

Dre wouldn't be nearly as popular as he is now if he didn't have Jimmy Iovine. On the other hand, you have to respect Dre as a businessman: moving to death Row, signing Eminem, signing 50, selling beats by dre to apple, The list goes on. He just knows how to make the right moves.

i know both of his children have been charged with murder in the first degree, so that might be weighing down on him in addition to not getting credit for the things he should get credit for.

The problem is most casual fans think Dre makes everything alone on his own when that has never been the case. Yella has said Dre did most of the work back in the Ruthless days though, but he always gave Yella credit too. "The Chronic" was Dr. Dre and Colin Wolfe. Warren G gave them old records to sample from. Daz did some drum programming. It's unclear who did what on "Doggystyle" though. Dre produced the records as far vocal coaching etc goes, but I think everybody on death Row contributed with the music. The death Row Players like Tony Green played bass etc.

King45 Rebirth said Quik is 100 percent right. Most people will credit Dr Dre best body of work to the death row days. But it is a known fact that Quik was doing most of the work for death row not Dr Dre.

Couldn't be more far from the truth. Oh, well.

So Quik and Dre were both on death Row , Quik produced hit records as did Dre but after it died, what happens ?

Dre created a new label , with interscope

Quik went underground ? , because why wasn’t he giving the chance knowing his pedigree.

Can’t say Dre had the machine when Quik had the same opportunity to do the same thing after death Row ended.
