![]() ![]() "Black Adam is poised to lose millions for Warner Bros. Discovery. Nearly seven weeks into its theatrical run, the Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson-led superhero film has made around $387 million worldwide on a $195 million budget. Variety reports the film cost at least another $80 million to market—a number short of the $100 million ad campaign that was planned before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Those numbers don’t account for the cut that movie theaters take from ticket sales, which can be as much as half. All told, Black Adam may have an uphill battle ahead of it just to break even. By comparison, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever concluded its fourth weekend after taking in more than $732 million worldwide so far. Johnson dismissed notions of competition between the two films, arguing that Black Adam’s lesser-known characters needed time to garner favor with audiences. "No need to knock us, we’re new babies and have to grow," he wrote. Black Adam's Uphill Battle Black Adam also failed to garner critical acclaim. The movie earned a 39% positive rating from Rotten Tomatoes and a 41 out of 100 on MetaCritic, putting it just above Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2016’s suicide Squad as the third worst-received DC Universe movie to date. The prospect of starring in a box office bomb is something of a rare turn of events for Johnson. To date, the iconic WWE star’s films have taken in more than $3.5 billion in North America and around $12.5 billion worldwide. Black Adam marks his second collaboration with director Jaume Collet-Serra, who helmed Johnson in 2021’s Jungle Cruise. Inspired by the Disney theme park ride, the movie posted a modest profit and has a sequel in the pipeline. Though Johnson has voiced his enthusiasm for a Black Adam sequel, Warner Bros. has yet to announce the next chapter for the bloodthirsty antihero. The film did beat 2019's Shazam!, at the box office for opening weekend by $15 million, however. The latter, starring Zachary Levi and Grace Caroline Currey, is getting a sequel in 2023 after several significant delays. Black Adam’s performance follows a wave of film cancelations at Warner Bros. amid the studio’s recent merger with Discovery. In 2022, the studio canned a completed Batgirl movie for HBO Max starring Leslie Grace at the cost of $90 million, along with projects like Scoob! Holiday Haunt. Black Adam is now streaming on HBO Max" ![]() |

New guy running it at WBD looking like the dumb a*s everyone on the internet already knew he was.
Not a good first impression on the shareholders bruh. But this what happens when you put the money guys in who don't understand art/culture. Couldn't dance on beat if he took actual lessons. |

You’re banking that budget on the Rock playing a character that outside of comic book circles has zero relevance. You then toss in a bunch of supporting characters that aren’t entrenched in pop culture.
Basically the plan was for the rock to save DC’s damaged reputation at the average moviegoer. Also, the movie will be on HBOMax before 2023 so why go see it in theaters? |

They did the best they could to make the most of it. If the old regime was still in power we'd have another headless Superman. The release moving from October hurt but just like everybody else COVID caused VFX to push back hella movies. Last regime also should have cross promoted the movie in their other movies like there should have been a post credit scene in The Batman/Peacemaker teasing Black Adam. Thankfully Gunn's in charge and believes in synchrony unlike the last regime who just put stand alone films and hope it make some money.

Damn….. Dwayne just has a hard time getting a movie that will be considered classic.
This was supposed to be the one that really got him over like Batista did with GOTG…. This was his shot to have a stable place in the comic universe And where’s the dumb a*s n*gga who said BP2 was gonna flop and would not make a billion??? What a fu*kin idiot all cuz he didn’t like that it had a lot of females as staring roles |

Folks want to see Black Adam vs. Superman/Shazam. I got confidence in Gunn. He seems to want synchrony with the DC characters.

If they want to win they need to bring it back to the old days where there is a theatrical run, then 5-6 months later a home release, and that is UNDERSTOOD by the public They want their cake (big theatrical run) and eat it too (keep people engaged with their streamer by streaming big releases 2 months after release)

Kang ain’t Thanos. Kang need bodies to his name, cause acting wise he seem like every other generic villain ever. DC still fu*king up fixing they own fu*kup and they fu*k up unfu*king what they have fu*ked up. DC has had how many tries ? They fu*ked up not one, not two, not three, not four, not five heroes. But those heroes are the core of the got damn justice league. Flash, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman. And they fuxked up cyborg so bad, they fuxked the dude’s whose was playing him just outta spite for defending himself. This entire universe, It always has been from the second Superman snapped zod’s neck, the spirit of whatever these characters were supposed to be, they became corrupted, poisoned, morose. If the heroes can’t find a reason to be above human limits like emotions, they’re aren’t heroes. Just vigilantes. That’s the point. That the whole hook of TDK. Did Batman have to take the fall. No. Joker right there. It works because he does it anyway. To say nah. That n*gga rose above his sh*t and went out a honorable man on his owwwww ten. But these fuxking sociopath fans, wellll welll in rEaL liFe sUpERmAN woULd BE riGHt to k*ll. SuPERmaN k*lleD beFOre.. That’s not the point. He never rose above it. He never tired. He just gave in. This universe died right there. But nah, we had to watch it stumble around leaking, beating itself even further. Fuxking up it own repair job. Now it’s just a Frankenstein of ideas and missed concepts and ok movies. It needs to be taken out back….

Rock’s been all hype lately.
His movies have been lowkey dogsh*t including this one. I gotta call it like it is even though I’m a huge Rock fan. He needs a better production team around him because they are trash. Fast Five and GI joe was good because his team didnt produce it. The audience will soon realize this if they haven’t already. |
