The merged platform’s expected name, “Max,” is being vetted by the company’s lawyers, according to people familiar with the matter. Some senior executives are still debating a final name, said two of the people. Internally, Warner Bros. Discovery has given the new service a code name of “BEAM” while a final name is being debated, said the people. Lawyers are vetting other names, as well. The app itself will share similarities with Disney+’s platform, with Warner Bros. Discovery’s brands as individual tiles, the people said. HBO, Discovery, DC Comics and Warner Bros. will be among the landing hubs on the platform, the people added. CNBC reported last year that WarnerMedia executives wanted a new name for the combined streaming service. While branding HBO Max with HBO crystalized the prestige image of the product, several executives felt the name may eventually dilute the HBO brand as consumers conflated it with everything on the streaming service. Warner Bros. Discovery management pushed up the launch date for the combined service to spring 2023, the company announced in its most recent earnings call in November. The pricing of the combined streaming service is still being discussed, the people said.

I definitely felt they wanted to get away from the "HBO" name because til this day people still confuse HBO the channel and HBO the streaming service.

It still exist, but it's parent company (Warner) stopped any further scripted series from being developed on there. They just do reruns and syndication.

Just having it as "Max" is gonna sound stupid. Why not just call it WBMax?

I wonder how trash the other names must have been or how dumb the decision makers must be if Max is leading the pack lol.

They could have kept the HBO Max name and put the Discovery programing on it. Discovery sounds like its made for documentaries and not sh*t like Game of Thrones so I get not using the Discovery name lol.

Naming it just Max, which reminds me of Cinemax which is basically a forgotten channel (shout out to Banshee and Strike Back though), is kinda dumb.

This is such bullsh*t smh. HBO Max is fine just like it is. The absolute best streaming service out. They don't even have filler like Netflix. You can literally binge watch all kinds of content on there. I wonder how how current HBO Max subscribers will be transferred over.

Warner owns Cinemax and k*lled it off for the most part.

They are distancing the streamer from "HBO" because investors and cutomers are confusing it with the channel. The channel and streaming service are just 2 separate things.

Having "HBO" or "Discovery" in the name has been a problem. Even on this forum, many have mixed up the channel and streaming service, so "HBO" in the title is a no go.

AT&T started HBO Max as Warner's main challenger in the streaming war because they thought managing a streaming service was within their capability.

They managed to become 3rd/4th in the market, but noticed it isn't sustainable and they are trash at managing a streamer.

Discovery managed to become 9th in a crowded streaming market and showed competency in managing their Discovery+ streaming service. AT&T decided to pass some of their ownership of Warner to Discovery to establish a merger.

Discovery+ is lifestyle, reality and variety.
- They eat mostly off of docs, reality shows, and food shows.
- 90 Day Fiance franchise and Shark Week are their biggest shows

They are merging with HBO Max and attempting to choose a name that prevents people from further confusing HBO the channel and HBO the streaming service which are 2 separate entities.

They are betting on Discovery's streaming management and the combined library of both, forging a more competent competitor in the streaming war.

South Park predicted this in a 2 part movie.

The problem highlighted in the article is that investors and customers are confusing those 2 channels with the streaming service, so they want to distance themselves from that.

The name you brought makes their problem even worse than before.

Dumb name. Nobody will a*sociate that with either brand

They need to stop cancelling all the good HBO Max shows.
I'm a reality show fan and watch ID a lot but they are ruining it with their choices.
