A New Mexico State men's basketball player shot early Saturday was "lured" to the University of New Mexico campus by four New Mexico students before an altercation ensued wherein he shot and k*lled one of the students, according to a Sunday release from the New Mexico State police. In the predawn shooting that led to the postponement of Saturday's New Mexico State-New Mexico rivalry game in Albuquerque, Mike Peake, a junior forward, was shot by Brandon Travis, a 19-year-old New Mexico student, a source told ESPN, confirming multiple reports. Peake then used a gun he possessed to shoot Travis, according to police. Travis was pronounced dead on the scene. New Mexico State police officials said Peake's condition is unknown; however, a statement by the University of New Mexico that was sent to students said he was in "stable" condition. The three other a*sailants, a 17-year-old female and two of Travis' friends, all fled after the shooting, which unfolded at a New Mexico residence hall. "Through investigation, agents later learned that Travis had conspired with a 17-year-old female and two of Travis's male friends, all UNM students, to lure the 21-year-old victim to UNM campus and a*sault him," the New Mexico State police statement said. The 17-year-old female has been apprehended and charged with aggravated battery and conspiracy. Peake, who is averaging 9.0 PPG through two games, was transported to a local hospital. The release by New Mexico State police calls Peake a "victim" in the shooting. A statement by New Mexico State called the incident "heartbreaking" and said men's basketball staffers had stayed in Albuquerque as the program continues to work through the tragic incident that involved one of its players. A statement by the University of New Mexico said counseling services will be available to all students.

Not sure if anyone read the story on the Virginia shooting but a witness said when the players went over to the shooter and started talking to him, he yelled out "Why yall always messing with me".... So I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out something like that may have happened here which led to the luring of dude to the scene to be attacked. We shall see

It’s not they are two different universities. UNM lobos are in Albuquerque and NMSU Aggies are in Las Cruces 5 hour drive. Was reading KOB earlier, a 17 year old girl was arrested in connection because she said she wanted to hook up… and then… RIP to the kid. He was only 19

Something like this happened at the University of Memphis when I was there. Football player won money from the casino and bragged about it a lil. He beat a dude up over a girl but that girl was now rocking with the dude who got beat up. Dude who got beat up and the chick plotted with 2 other dudes who didn't go to the school and tried to rob the football player. Shot him as he was trying to drive away and k*lled him... Everyone besides the girl got life. I sat next to the football guy in a class and I used to hoop with the dude who got beat up by the football player. Sad sh*t. It was a First 48 on the sh*t... The football player's parents were sad af at the memorial. The sh*t broke my heart... Niccas be trying to line people up forreal. I coulda been in that situation because I used to wear minks to school and drive a nice a*s d boy whip. Thank God in all my ignorance, I had people who were watching my back and letting me know what was going on. Nicca straight up told me dudes were looking to rob me and in my ignorance I looked him dead in the eyes and said, "niccas ain't finna do sh*t!" Stupid of me! Thank God. I'm blessed forreal.
