Rare footage of Michael Jackson using uncommonly-heard 'deep voice' goes viral

Footage of Michael Jackson using a deep voice mid-concert has resurfaced, and people can't get over it.

"This just blew my mind," one Reddit user reeled after hearing a sound markedly different from the singer's famously high-pitched voice.

The clip comes from a 1997 Copenhagen concert as part of his BAD tour and, honestly, it's blown our minds, check it out here:

Shared to Reddit with the caption "Michael Jackson using his deep voice during a performance in Copenhagen, 1997," the clip is a fair few decibels lower than what we're used to hearing from the Thriller singer.

In the viral footage, Michael is performing his song In The Closet when he breaks out of falsetto to sing: "One thing in life you must understand / The truth of lust woman to man / So open the door and you will see / There are no secrets / Make your move / Set me free."

And, it's not the voice you expect, with people taking to the social media site to comment on the unusual sound: "I was NOT ready for that," while another added, "It sounded kinda hot."

Another thought it explained why Michael was so popular: "Damn this mofo on whole different level. No wonder people above my generation loved him so much."

While another was bowled over by the performance: "Cool. I've never heard him sing/speak without the falsetto before. He sounded like a completely different person."

Some questioned why Michael seemed to speak in a higher register than was natural for him, writing: "Like, right? He was SPEAKING in falsetto. That's so strange."

However, one speculated that it might be a tactic for the skilled singer: "I was friends with a lot of singing music majors in college and their professors told them that they should talk in their singing register. Could be an adaptation to maintain his high falsetto."

Still, speaking like that can really take its toll, with another user writing "I have a friend who talks with a falsetto, and she's now in vocal therapy because she gets vocal fatigue very quickly. Her therapist is asking her to try to speak in a lower register so as not to strain her vocal cords."

I’ve got a homie who has a bunch of unreleased MJ tracks. He recorded them for Michael and owns the rights as soon as blanket turns 18 which is soon. Anyway, he played me a bunch of demos and studio sessions they did together. He’s got a bunch of outtakes with Jackson just talking in the studio. Blew my mind hearing baritone MJ. Will never feel natural hearing him with a baritone.

Nah you not. I think teddy riley said he did as a vocal training type of thing. Speaking with a high pitch voice go help strengthen his vocal cords. Definitely do a fact check on it.
