Most don't have an IT department capable of executing on this. I work for a SAAS company and still there are basically no protections on my laptop. I've only installed Steam on here but pretty sure I could install anything, reformat the hard drive, whatever

I always tell friends to cover their webcam with a grey or black electrical tape. If they are monitoring you they will end up telling on themselves by mentioning that they need your webcam on or available. Secondly you can set your screen display in Windows to not go to sleep for up to two hours.

you dont need an IT dept personally monitoring users.

you use software such as sentrypc, Veriato, ekran, interguard etc. and you set reports and alerts based on specific behaviours and you give managers the access to monitor their employees.

as for installing things like steam, you can just strip local admin from users and/or set up group policies to stop people from installing sh*t

Very few companies are wasting money on buying and managing that kinda software

Whole post is BS TBH. There are exceptions like maybe government jobs and companies that work with private data, but most companies don't give a fu*k

...It would generally be IT setting up said software and preparing the laptops to be distributed to employees...

Unless you work for some piece of sh*t mom and pop business. If you’re using company computers and company software they can see EVERYTHING. Most employers probably don’t care enough to keep up to the second updates. But if they wanted they easily could

Nah this ain't really true. A lot of companies either don't know any better or just don't care.

I bounced around a lot during quarantine. Companies have software to protect you if your laptop is lost and they have generic usage logs, but they don't have keyloggers or camera activators or super specific data like search history. That's borderline illegal depending on the job.

It's still a sh*tty idea to do a lot of personal sh*t on a work laptop, but that's because you could mistakenly install a virus or app or extension that does include a keylogger or that reroutes your browser usage through a shady server that does steal your passwords

If a company uses Macs then the whole post is void

Don't worry your company will be ransomwared in the near future, then they'll finally decide to invest in cyber security. That is, if the ransomware doesn't bankrupt them.

Any employer that doesn't trust you enough that they have to install that sh*t on your computer is not an employer I'd want to work for.

I work in-office because my job responsibilities require it but like 90 percent of my company works from home and our IT team monitors their daily activity by how actively they are using the computer, but a webcam taking pictures and sh*t and logging keystrokes is way overboard.

I couldn't give a fu*k less if I made a concerted effort, I don't own em and our stock price is down like 60% since I started last fall. Don't even care about my tissue paper RSUs

I work from home in sales for a fortune 25. I take most calls on my back deck drinking coffee of water. My boss doesn’t give a fu*k if I touch my computer all day, deals are made on the phone. Especially deals at my level.

This is for low level employees who need a certain amount of activity to do their jobs. Data entry, SDR, AE, etc.
