Aug 11 - Illegal pool with 60 tons of water discovered on rooftop in NYC

WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) -- The New York City Department of Buildings is pouring cold water on plans for an unapproved rooftop pool in Brooklyn.

They discovered a 480-square-foot pool built on a roof in Williamsburg without permits or professionals involved in the installation.

The pool was discovered Tuesday, and the DOB ordered it drained and removed that day.

New York. We know. It%u2019s hot. We get it. But please don%u2019t try to build a rooftop swimming pool without first getting permits and hiring professionals to do the job properly. This 480 sqft pool we just found in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, wasn%u2019t built to Code and had to be removed.

%u2014 NYC Buildings (@NYC_Buildings) August 10, 2022
At 30x16 feet wide and 4 feet deep, the pool was holding nearly 60 tons of water on the roof of the occupied building.

The DOB said the building housed a day care center on the third floor.

Officials are reminding anyone who would like to have a pool to look into the proper permits required.

I wonder if it's the same building that jay-z could have bought for 2 million underneath the Brooklyn bridge back in the day that is now worth 25 million .

Instead he bought every v12 engine

I was thinking more tbey alrwaey gave the weight? So was thinking more of somebody finding how many gallons the pool was…

60 tons divide by 8 = how many gallons of water they had up there.. that’s a lot of water waste for any city I’m sure

14,371 gallons

Edit: Thought that was the answer but then I plugged it into a calculator and came up with 44,883 gallons. Evidently tons can be measured 2 ways. There's a regular ton and then there's what's called a register ton which measures volume.

They do what they want - especially in that part of NYC. Same way they broke the law during COVID lock down to no penalty.
