Reefers can maintain any temp you set them to from 70 to around 5 degrees F maybe even lower. Thats how all of your food and ice cream arrives to the supermarket in tact.

I guarantee that the reefer wasn't operable at all. They probably put tons of refrigerated items in there with a hollowed-out encasement. That held them. Tons of rotten food and fruits in the front. Or someone at Customs who gave the pass for that bread. Someone gonna die on this side of Juarez.
