May 26 - U.S. Median Rent To Reach Record High Of $2,000 By Summer

If you think the cost of living is high right now, just hold on to your horses until summer. Rent in the U.S. reached an all-time median high in April of 2022, and itís expected to keep rising to a record average of $2,000 per rental unit by August, according to a recent report from Realtor.com.

Currently, the national average rent is $1,827 a month, up 16.7% from a year ago. The study researched the average rental prices in the 50 biggest cities across the United States to determine the data. The data also broke down the average rent cost by the number of bedrooms, determining that rent for a studio apartment is growing the fastest of all rental units. In the U.S., it will cost you a whopping average of $1,499 per month for a studio ó another record high. The average two-bedroom will cost you around $2,552 per month.

currently looking for a 1br with my girl. high end of the budget is $3500, but that's if we want to grab a 2 bed. Anything recently updated in a good neighborhood with 600 Sq ft or more for under $2600 is a deal out here.

sh*t's wild.

for $3500 we're seeing 2 beds but we don't necessarily need all that, so figure if we can, we'll try to keep it at $2500. She'll be paying the same as she does now but it'll save me an extra $400 a month.

cheaper than rent.

Problem ain't really paying your monthly mortgage, it's getting the down payment together.

If you're trying to buy a home in a city, like a major city, you need to come up with anywhere from $30k to $50k as a down payment because you probably ain't finding anything worthwhile for under a mil, and even then, you're probably winding up with a fixer upper in a good neighborhood or a move-in ready joint in a not so great neighborhood.

Alternatively, you can cop a little shoebox condo for around $500k.

That's DC, I should say that $3500 is easily getting a good 2 br. but we're trying to stay far away from that.

I want a Tundra, but I have two paid off Tacoma’s. I just replaced the alternator on my 08 one. Took me like 8 hours, but I saved 1800 dollars and waits with my local shops. Spent 200 on the alternator and 60 on a belt and $40 on some extra breaker. It’s wild how much I see people asking and folks be approaching asking about my sh*t. Toyota wanted 5k deposit for the Tundra TRD, I wanted to gift myself with one after the hell I went through last year (deployment, base closures, losing folks, losing my girl and so on). Instead I’m gonna probably gonna work and try and pay this house off and my moms whip. Everyday though, I’ve been thinking of leaving America tho… I ain’t gonna front.

A lot of suburbs and multi family units outside the city have raised 30% or more. That study is obsolete, because rent everywhere is up especially because of remote work took leap.
