Have you ever heard of ‘the flippening’?

It’s been a somewhat hot topic these days. Every time Bitcoin’s dominance takes a dive, the topic comes out again.

More recently though, I decided to take a bit of a deeper dive into the whole concept of the “flippening” itself. It made me realise that there aren’t really any good resources about it, and that’s what spurred this video.

The flippening was first used on an Ethereum subreddit in early 2017 and it became super popular later that year. This because Bitcoin’s dominance fell while Ethereum’s rose, and ETH actually came close to becoming the biggest crypto by market cap.

This is what’s meant by the term ‘flippening’ – when ETH flips BTC to become the biggest cryptocurrency. It’s a somewhat contentious topic, mainly because nobody really knows what will happen to both cryptocurrencies if the flippening does happen.

There are a lot of factors that contribute to this, namely the accessibility of both cryptos, the unique value propositions they have, and the risks a*sociated with them. These three factors are arguably best viewed through the eyes of institutional investors, because they have the $.

While it’s possible that Ethereum could flip Bitcoin in the near term, it looks like this is logically impossible due to the sequence of events that would need to occur to make it happen. I won’t get into the nitty gritty here. You’ll have to watch the video that!
