Jan 27 - Marquette Poll: Trump and DeSantis both only get 33% vs Biden...yikes

Biden leading Trump, DeSantis by similar margins in new poll

President Biden is leading former President Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in two hypothetical, head-to-head matchups for the 2024 presidential election, according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted by Marquette Law School, found that 43 percent of adults nationwide would support Biden if the 2024 presidential election were held today, while 33 percent would vote for Trump in a one-on-one matchup — a 10-point margin.

Sixteen percent said they would choose a different candidate, while six percent said they would not vote.

In a hypothetical race against DeSantis, however, Biden polls slightly better: 41 percent of adults nationwide said they would throw their support behind Biden, while 33 percent would support DeSantis, a 12-point margin.

Eighteen percent of respondents said they would vote for a different candidate, and eight percent said they would not cast a ballot.

Only 29 percent of those polled said they want to see Trump run for president again in 2024, while 71 percent said they did not want to see him seek a second term.

The polling comes as tensions between Trump and DeSantis are stewing amid a possibility that the two GOP figures could face off against one another in a Republican primary to lead the ticket in 2024.

Trump has been grumbling behind the scenes for months regarding DeSantis’ rise in the party, which has led to whispers regarding the 2024 presidential election. Recent media reports have taken a microscope to the relationship between the two GOP leaders, one that has been characterized as confrontational and marked by private but personal attacks.

The former president appeared to knock DeSantis earlier this month for refusing to disclose if he has received his COVID-19 booster shot. Trump, during an interview, criticized “gutless” politicians who will not reveal their booster shot status.

Trump and DeSantis have not revealed if they will launch bids for the White House in 2024. Additionally, the Florida governor has refused to say publicly whether he will or will not challenge the former president should he wage a reelection campaign.

A Harvard CAPS/Harris poll shared with The Hill earlier this week found that in a hypothetical eight-person GOP primary, Trump raked in 57 percent support followed by DeSantis at 11 percent and former Vice President Mike Pence at 11 percent. No other candidate in the poll pulled in double-digit support.

Biden in December said he plans to run for reelection "if I'm in good health."

A Wednesday poll from Politico and Morning Consult found that 45 percent of registered voters would support Biden if the election were held today, and 44 percent would support Trump, which would make for a tight rematch. Eleven percent said they would not vote.

The Marquette Law School poll surveyed 1,000 adults nationwide between Jan. 10 and Jan. 21. The margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.

Not a poll guy by any means, but it's interesting considering that 1) Marquette polls usually have a conservative bias; and 2) Biden has been getting hammered on pretty much everything since he got into office...surprised to see him even with 43%

Biden has done a poor job but if he faces candidates as weak as Trump or DeSantis he might be able to win reelection. Would much rather he was primaried but if his polling continues to be +10% on those two he may not get the primary challenge he deserves. Long time until 2024 though, even people who approve of his performance might feel differently after the 2022 election returns

Yeah, seeing that 71% of people don’t want trump to run was probably the most surprising response.

I knew he lost basically everybody not in his base, but I didn’t expect his base have dwindled to that much.

Nothing’s certain but I don’t think he has as much of a hold on the GOP as the media is suggesting he does.

It he problem is the DNC has no good plan to replace him. Just wait, they’re gonna be pushing Harris/Buttiegege in 2024 because Biden’s going to be too old

And virtually nobody will care because they’re the two most boring, uninspiring, do nothing politicians you could realistically put forward on the left.

The Republicans are really going to fu*k up if they run trump again, or even desantis, they need a progressive Republican and they can easily win.

I honestly don't think he'll actually run again... just running interference so the GOP can prep for him instead of the dem pool of successors.

If they could put up a non-racist/xenophobic, young, populist they’d win every state but the strongholds.

Somebody who plays to GOP values without the dem criticism would destroy anybody the democrats could put up. There are a lot of issues that can court swing voters on that they lose by tying it in to racism/s*xism/some form of hatred.

Problem is, the party has moved so far to the right, that the only people who were like that are being driven out of the party.

I bet you Kinzinger would destroy anybody in a general. Moderates would flock to him, conservatives would too. The only ones who wouldn’t would be Trump’s base, but they’re generally all in areas that would vote red anyway.

Barack was relatively little-known before 08, doesn't have to be someone with huge name ID at the beginning of their campaign. IDK really but someone could emerge between now and 2024

I hope people don't get amnesia about them trying to overturn the results of the election, and there was numerous republicans who were complicit in this. They're just waiting to get control back in the midterms to do crazier sh*t, let alone winning in 2024.

No party is going to primary their own President because as a political strategy it projects a perception of defeat to voters. If Biden still has a pulse in 2024, I’m positive he’ll run for re-election.

However, if things don’t turn around for Biden quickly, I think Trump or Desantis will most likely win. Especially when you take into account that Biden is losing the independent voters and GOP voter registration surged in 2021. Independent voters are a big part of the reason why Biden won certain key states.

That’s entirely not true. I get what you’re trying to say but Obama was considered one of the up and coming stars of the Democrat party after he did his speech at the DNC in 04’. In terms of popularity he was like the equavilant of what Nikki Haley currently is to the Republican Party, which means he was like 5th place. Hillary was the one who everyone originally thought was going to be the start candidate in 08’, but Obama did his thing on the campaign trail and the rest is history.

Basically this… reality is Biden and the dems have shot their own foot… they have control but are too scared of the Republicans to get anything done.
