My proposal for new OT rules (simplest solution, no gimmicks)

My new NFL overtime proposal:

Starts with a coin toss and kick off. If the first offense goes 3 and out then punts, then the other team only has to make a fg or td to win it. If they don’t score, they punt and the game continues.

If the first offense scores a fg, the other team has to score 3 at least to continue the game, or a td to win it.

If the first offense scores a td, the other team has to score a td to continue the game.

It’s simple and fair and it doesn’t deviate from the other 60 minutes played. It’s not gimmicky.

This is for regular season and playoffs. No ties. The entire OT is untimed and only has a play clock. If they think players will be too tired, take a halftime length of time between 4th quarter and OT. Hockey does it between periods. It won’t k*ll us.

How is the current system NOT fair?

If you can’t stop a team from scoring a TD why do you deserve to be on the field again after that???

Go watch Soccer if you want two halves and a shootout.

This is chess with violence man….

The ending ain’t supposed to be a Disney Plus fairytale

If we're really going to go this route why not just say here's an extra 15 minutes. Play until the clock reaches zero

because that mandates an extra 15. if both teams run an offense and defense on the field, and the game ends, thats extremely fair.

because both teams don't have to make a stop.

the record for OT rules right now as it stands is 10-1 winner of the coin toss.

If the bills won the toss, they would've won the game.

the previous 3 offensive possessions for the bills, and the fact that the winner of the toss under the current rules is 10-1.

stop it.

the chance of winning the game if you win the toss under the new rules is better than under the old rules.

This new rule change to stop sudden death didnt change the percentage odds away from the coin toss more than the old rule

I don't see how anyone with common sense thinks ot as it stands is fair.

Numbers don't lie.....the team that wins the coin toss wins the game over 75 percent of the time.....

How can anyone think that's equal opportunity

I got one easier than that. Play another 15 minute quarter and whoever is winning at the end wins the game. If 15 is too long then play 10 minutes out to determine a winner. If a tie after that then go sudden death.

The visiting team always calls the coin toss, right? If they call the toss and win it, should the home team also get to call a coin toss, to make it fair?

Let em play. I like how they changed it to a field goal on the first drive doesn’t end the game. Nothing else is needed. Play defense

But the odds of the defense scoring is like once in every 91 possessions or some sh*t...

Only 4 times out of the last 45 overrimes has the team that won the coin toss turned the ball over.

There is absolutely no numbers that warrant the current rules, there is not 1 statistic that can be shown that shows the team that losses the coin toss having a equal opportunity.

Pat Mahomes himself has argued against the rules.......

83 percent of nfl players and 85 percent of NFL fans in 2019 were against the current rules

If the overwhelming numbers of players and fans want a equal opportunity overtime...why shouldn't they change it?

They changed it from the coin winner, kick FG, win game....which happened pretty much all the time... now other team gets a try if they hold to a FG, before it was an automatic win.

Now it's not fair cause the other team didn't get a shot after they gave up a TOUCHDOWN? They don't deserve a shot!!!!

If they held them to a FG they would've got a shot but they blew it.

How is this hard to understand or think it's not fair?

im jiggy with that too. my only thing is the NFL will say its too long (15 min). I think what I came up with is the best way to offer a good outcome thats fair and has a chance of being quick. Theres a chance its over in 3 game minutes. Or it could play out for 10-15.
