Daryl Morey interview explaining his side of the Simmons trade

Simmons stuff starts at 4:00

I agree with Morey's view on the situation any player you bring in might take time away from Maxey, and Thybulle, there's a reason for the purpose to getting a star multiple players isn't going to help the situation.

The purpose is to win an NBA championship not a playoff series.

lol there is not one player the 76ers can get for Ben besides Russell or John Wall

So they’d rather not do sh*t and just let Embiid rot? And Ben just be at home for another 3 years?

YES Simmons is better than Russ or Wall lol Morey actually values Ben and does believe he can get him to play as a Sixer again. Maybe you should listen to his point of view.

He believes trading Ben for a bunch of pieces to go from the 7th best odds to the 6th isn't worth it so he's not going to do it the point isn't to win a few games its to win a championship.

In the interview he says fans might say we should trade Ben so we don't waist one of Joel's years but if we make a trade that doesn't win a championship you're waisting multiple years...

He’s going to have to trade Ben sooner or later dawg.

No player is going to want to play for an organization who won’t pay him and the fans treat him like sh*t and requests to leave but you won’t trade anybody for him.

Even if Ben play again. His heart won’t be there. You won’t win shìt keeping a disgruntled player. You might not win shìt trading him either.

Moral of the story. Winning isn’t guaranteed.

I get it, Ben Simmons is an attractive trade piece at the end of the day, yea he sucks at scoring but he’s a 25 year old all star that’s damn near 7 feet, is a great defender gets boards and can move the ball around. He’s also 30 million so you wanna get something good back for that and not just trade for bullsh*t. But I don’t know if it’s a good idea to essentially waste a year of Embiid.

The Sixers fu*ked themselves over tho. Doc in particular should’ve thought better than to say the sh*t he said. Gotta know your personnel, keep Ben happy long enough where he doesn’t just say fu*k this and destroy his trade value

Honestly if I was in the front office, after seeing that performance I would have been done with him and started to plan to get him out of here. I would also remember what Phil Jackson’s dumbass did with Carmelo and tanked the sh*t out his trade value daily and couldn’t get rid of him for 2 Big Macs. I wouldnt care to do anything with him but trade him and get somebody back for him. This sh*t a business, if you’re mentally done with a guy, there’s no point to worry about trying to discipline him or teach him a lesson. Make him think sh*t all good and trade him by the second week of November. Now you just got 30 mil on the books for a guy who literally does not want to play for you.

Morey makes sense but it’s really a fine line. Take the Lakers situation, usually you trade for a big name star with a high payroll, the team who gets the star usually wins the trade. In the Lakers case they lost the trade and usually you only trade for one star to team up with another. If you have two stars already you tend to give up your young talent that fills the roster. The nets situation worked cuz Harden plays to the back of his trading card and is way more efficient than Russ. Morey doesn’t want to trade for Ben to get 4 more Maxey type players who will then cause extra roster rotation issues.

Flip side is embiid isn’t an iron man type player to where a year won’t seem wasted if you don’t make a trade. I think the kings deal or Detroit was a good deal they would’ve got back a fringe all star in either Fox or Grant. But to the points earlier if you’re truly searching for a top 25 player it will probably have to be Dame. I could see this off season Morey trying to do something for Dame. Portland will have to just really come to grips of starting fresh. Dame and CJ not gonna cut it at all and it’s proven anyway that it won’t.

He made good points

EDIT:

He said they have not been able to correct the issues that Ben has. Could one of those issues be firing Doc?

just leave dude on the bench

ben simmons like the kid that couldn't get his way so he just chose to be a d*ckhead and fuc up the entire program for the class that day

he's really only upset because he believed in his own/media hype...he thought he was the new LeBron and Philly would just hand the keys to him no questions asked like the Cavs did for LeBron....but I think he missed the part in the story where LeBron's work ethic and talent afforded him the keys.

If Ben comes bavk this season …

In shape humble and motivated they could steal it .. there’s no clear cut front runner for the chip and Embid is playing lights out …

But that’s a very big if !!??

Post season is going to be crazy tho !!

You think him not trading him and getting Embiid some type of help going to make things better? He's essentially fu*ked either way. You can't have this fiasco go too much longer without pissing off your other superstar, you can't trade Ben for a superstar, and if Ben comes back to play and he lulls through it like he did the practice, that doesn't do any good either. Best scenario is to trade him got some solid pieces and get Embiid some help.

Cause their thinking is that Joel would never be that player to request a trade and is just fine with this whole situation now. They're ceiling is the 2nd round, maybe 1st if they get the Bucks/Nets right away. No superstar wants to keep losing in the early rounds and they're doing their part, but don't have the help they need.

I cant do this broken record thing no mo lol

Real af question cause some have made good points following all the breaking news behind scenes in in interviews..

But on what end of this spectrum are yall?

Is Embid worth the risk of trying to find a moderate complimentary player? Or wait till next season for a legit shot at a star player?

Cause getting rid of Ben jist for the sake sounds dumb af when money is involved. That sentiment also collides with the notion of more fare talent being spread. Giving a player like Ben that leverage based on moments isnt the same as identity Ben as a clear cut Superstar.

So who wants Ben on their team for the right swap? Not two years down the rode, i mean right now? And can it make contractual sense?

Please dont compare thos to the Lakers. Maybe its because of [Redacted] goggles. But this Laker team has to many old heads. Ariza washed up. Melo washed up. Amd RW washed up. The past nail that will determine indefinitely how the Lakers as a Org move forward is A.D. who imo has been playing like he boardeline washed up due to injuries.

Ariza, RW, Melo, A.D. A.D is the main problem because he has never been able to win games without Lebron in the lineup. And the rest have already show a huge lack of being able to more than pure skill based things. The I.q of Melo n RW is something their fans need to come to terms with. But they aren't from what it seems.

Im just sitting back like many, enjoying the complete about face. Lmaooo Not all Hall of Famers are created equally lmaoo

Ben Destroyed his own value. He's a prideful dumbass who wishes to be on a mediocre team then win.

it’s a tricky situation because if a deal for Harden is available in the summer, you Have to hold out for that

do you go all in and hope Portland will trade Lillard by the deadline and hope that he is ready to suit up by the playoffs?

or do you just make a mediocre deal with young talent and draft picks, it’s alot to consider

Morey backed himself into this corner. Not sure why any team would bail him out if his Simmons synopsis is right. Not sure why any player would want to be apart of that organization
