I can remember him being one of those guys at least from '99 to like '03 then he was the man from '04 and '05 and still was one of those guys from '06 up until he dropped 4:44 then he kinda became really bigger than rap at that point.

I would say from '96 since that's when he debuted but I'm too young to remember anything rap wise from '96 and '97; '98 I think DMX and Bad Boy was doing their thing then too plus idk if Reasonable Doubt as as acclaimed then as it became later on in his career.

But from '99 to '17 that I've witnessed and can vouch for, I'd say that's almost a 20 year run.

How the hell was Jay the man in 04 and 05 when he had no presence? those albums with Linkin Pink and R. Kelly made no impact on the game, in 05 he dropped like two features that had no impact and even when he came back with Kingdom Come he was never in that top spot again because Wayne started emerging as a superstar.

Realistically Jay didn’t start blowing up until 98 and his run didn’t start until 2000 and it ended in 03 when he “retired” and 50 came out.

That’s three years, to say he been running the game for 20 years is absolutely delusional.

He’s not running anything though. I like Hov and sure his sh*t is anticipated but a lot of people are anticipated. Drake is actually putting up numbers. Jays run ended around Magna Carta, and you could probably argue he wasn’t “running” sh*t then since Kendrick was around Wayne and Drake were there etc.
