Boxden Discussion: What is the allure to these Verzes battles?

I know this is going to get some disagreement but I ain't trolling or nothing i'm being sincere. I don't understand the appeal to these events. to me it feels like it's just a money grab based on nostalgia of kats who came up in the 90's listening to these great artists.

If you into them Verzes battles, can you help me understand the appeal to them?

edited to add pic to get that wild thumbnail outta there

for me, its the nostalgia of being there when the songs were new to the world...

i dont even look at it as a competition or battle, but more like a showcase of each artist if that makes sense...

Until i see one where n*ggas are openly battlin B-Side's with the same effort as their hits, i wont call it a competition...

for starters it's just hip hop as fu*k

I like to see artists that came b4 this current era being celebrated, and to remind everyone that hip hop has generational talent from day one.

also I get a chance to hear songs I didn't b4 and to see artist perform that I may have not gotten a chance to ever.

even the non rap sh*t. that Isley brothers n earth wind and fire verzuz was a blessing to anybody who love soul and classic music

I like verzuz because a lot of times I get to see artist perform songs that I've never seen them perform live.

I can understand what y'all saying above me,
I primarily a*sumed it was based on nostalgia alone but never really equated it with things like the B-side materials.

I'm with you on your original post. I don't get the appeal. As for 'b-sides' I can get the album, better that than listen to bad audio set ups and out of breath performances.

When it first started it was dope to see artists and producers we argued about going head to head with their BEST material in the purest form. The money grab didn’t start until Bone Thugs vs Three Six. They were trying to monetize it. Swizz amd Timbo held them off and ran with the idea (I think). After that some matchups just didn’t make sense. It was good to see Patti, EWandF, islet Brothers, BDK, KRS, X, and a slew of others. With people back outside it’s not the same. The bigger artists that we would love to see won’t do it which sucks. The main thing about it I really liked was the stories in between. Oh and the emergence of Jada! I’ll check it out again when LL, Busta, or Missy go up.

it's a hip-hop card game with each playing their best 20 cuts

you get to hear 40 verzuz in a couple of hours, live, with each rapper trying to outdo the other

what's not to like about that?

i like rap music

It’s easy to tell who’s really from the culture and who’s not lol…

Like how the fu*k can you be a hiphop head and say you don’t find what’s appealing about Dmx and Snoop dogg battling their 20 best songs

Lol I knew op wasn’t true to this art when he said Eminem’s racist tapes were doctored and edited to make it sound like he said racist things

Go listen to Eminem, Johnathan Hill
