Astros can do this, I’m sure they came out with more sophisticated cheating methods

Both teams returning to the ALCS so soon should have squashed the cheating excuses for either of them. I'm extremely fatigued with the cheating allegations. These are the best two teams in the AL and they've proven that in convincing fashion this year.

It’s a weird situation as a whole cus if they’re good enough to have gotten here without cheating then why cheat? It’s gonna be a black eye on the sport for a while considering it seemed like nothing was done about it. But ya no cheating and they’re back to prove they never needed it

More teams "cheat" than any casual fan is remotely aware of. Only the largest scandals stay in the headlines for longer than a day or two.

Baseball also has the longest track record of gamesmanship of any sport in existence. The largest black eye in baseball history was actually the polar opposite of cheating to win: the 1919 Black Sox game fixing scandal. I would much rather have my team get caught cheating to win games than conspiring to lose them. The a*sumption there being that every single competitive team in the sport is constantly looking for an edge they can get away with. Sign stealing is as old as the game itself and has been understood as a core element to the game of baseball until the very moment the Astros got caught doing so with the aid of their complex relay system we all know about by now.

Between the steroid scandal of the 90s and 00s, Pete Rose's gambling faux pas in the 80s, the controversy regarding the Giants with The Shot Heard Round the World in the 50s, and the foreign substance doctoring of baseballs over the better part of the last decade, baseball has more decades tainted by "cheating" scandals than not. At some point, fans of the game must understand the place gamesmanship has in the sport and respect the competitors who go out there trying to win under any means necessary. In baseball, you are either cheating or you are left behind by the multitude of ball clubs who seek to one up the competition. Gamesmanship in baseball is an arms race and always has been. Singling out individual teams seems asinine to me.

I was one of the first to predict that the Astros would resume their place atop the AL immediately following their scandal, while most fans of the game erroneously a*sumed that the allegations of cheating would simply crumble them and that "all balance would be restored" in the league. Well, what actually happened? The Astros remain the single common denominator of the past 5 ALCS games and look to be virtually unscathed by allegations of cheating. You know why? Because their cheating isn't the reason they are so incredibly good. The same holds true for Boston, and there are only two logical explanations for that: either the presumed effect of their cheating has been well overstated, or they are not the only teams who have been cheating all along.

Being a Patriots fan, I am doubly fatigued by all this nonsense. The reality is that virtually every single franchise in all major sports have been linked to a cheating scandal in some way, with the only discernible difference being the media coverage attached to the good teams getting their hands caught in the cookie jar. Casual fans want to believe that there are outlier bogeymen guilty of all the wrongdoing, when the stark reality is that the practice is endemic to sports in general, if not human nature altogether. Men cheat. Women cheat. Your favorite ball clubs cheat. All I'm concerned with is who comes out on top while everybody is pushing to gain that edge.

I, too would love to live in a perfect world where only the best and legal methods of winning a ball game were the reality of every sporting event. I'm just not naive enough to believe that I do.
