Go to credit card

What's your go to credit card that you prefer using over others you have and why?

And if it's a credit card you don't have but you're contemplating on applying on it, why are you interested in said credit card?

Then You’re the perfect person for a credit card.

I don’t like debt either … but I pay for almost everything with my credit card …. Earn the cash back … or points … then pay it off with the cash I would have used.

If you’re disciplined … credit cards make you money …

Aside from the fact that you need to have credit to buy a car … get a place … etc …

You don't necessarily have to have credit to buy a car or get a place but they do run your credit if you're looking to finance a car or rent a place respectively and if you have bad or no credit then you may be a*sed out or have to place a bigger deposit for the crib or pay for the car outright.

edit: Or use someone as a cosigner but that would just put their credit at risk, should you encounter a mishap.

this is the only correct way to use a credit card...I said I don't use credit cards not that I don't believe in credit, I have good credit, just got a business credit card to get my wife airline points from a large purchase I'm preparing to make, I feel you though

I was using a combo of a Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Freedom Unlimited and an American Express Gold card but have downgraded the Sapphire Reserve to the Sapphire Preferred after the latest change to Ultimate Rewards points. So the main combo is now the Sapphire Preferred and the Freedom Unlimited. Don't use the Amex Gold as much now since the Sapphire Preferred basically replaced it too.

What were some of the benefits that made you use the sapphire reserved over the amex gold?

When I worked at chase as a banker, the sapphire was created to compete against Amex concierge service amongst other things

I won't front like I'm in the 800s but although I've explained before how I had reached that point, my sh*t on the comeup again. I just have one more rack to pay off and I won't be looking back in terms of debt or bad credit.

I just got the chase freedom flex. I debated between that and the sapphire but for my needs, the flex works better for me in regards to the cash back amounts.

That 5% back on grocery shopping (outside of walmart and target) is going to earn me all types of cash!

Only broke people can't understand the value of using these credit cards for everyday purposes and paying it off right away and earning rewards!

Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards card...i get to 3% cash back for a category of choice (e.g. Online Purchases, Entertainment, Gas, etc), automatically get 2% cash back on Gas purchases and 1% on all other purchases...I average at least $50-80 a month in cash back rewards

I dont even touch the REWARDS account...i plan to let it grow over years and use it for a car downpayment or some other investment

Card comes with all kind of perks and benefits. One I recently found out about is Extended warranty on products. Lets say I buy a TV from BestBuy with the card. TV manufacturer offers 1 year free warranty but BestBuy offers 2year and 4 year plans that can range $300-800.

The card benefit extends your warranty for free up to a maximum of 3 years but only matches the number of years the manufacturer offered. So in example above, I would get 1 year of manufacturer warranty and 1 year warranty covered by VISA warranty..

This is one of MANY valuable benefits..they have purchase protection if product is damage or lost...etc

Haven't used a debit card in like 10yrs. Only use a credit. Use it like a debit, but earn 2% on all purchase slash payments. I use a citi double cash back card. There's others that provide more % money back but have to monitor variable categories which is too much of a hassle imo. I also use a visa small business for large purchases such as tvs, furniture, and for travel. Thats bc it provides extended warranties and travel protection such as insurance on rentals thats better than the one you would pay for through the rental agency. Also, has price match. I've been getting all the black friday door buster deals the day before the sale, even those ones that have the crazy tv price that fools be lining up to get. Buy it the day b4, file a claim with my cc the next day, provide a copy of the ad for the deal, get the difference back. Only issue is you do have to pay the normal tax amount but no lining up outside like a dumba$$

How did the sapphire preferred replace it?

I Own the Amex gold and blue cash+. I was thinking of going up to the plat, but I don’t travel enough to justify the 695 fu*king fee

The initial sign-up bonus plus the 4x multiplier for restaurants and groceries made the Amex Gold my go-to for any food related expenses. The Sapphire Reserve at the time only had a 3x multiplier for restaurants and no permanent multiplier for groceries. The Sapphire Reserve was the go-to for travel related purchases (the annual travel credit was clutch).

The new bonus multiplier on the Sapphire Preferred, in my opinion, makes the Sapphire Reserve no longer worth the annual fee.

I received a pre-approval for the Amex Platinum awhile ago and, like you, I couldn't justify the annual fee. The benefits sucked in comparison to the Sapphire Reserve.

Your right a loan is a 3 part system down payment, credit score and value. You have to hit 2 out of 3. So if you have bad credit and you want a house or a car you just need to put more of a down and buy a house or car with equity or below market vaule. I know this because I was in training to become a finance manager @ my dealership b4 covid hit. You ever wonder why people with a low credit score will get approved for a new car before they are approved for a used one ?There's no value in the used car (it around1k under market) and a new car can be discounted a good amount making value. Credit just dictates the interest rate....
