He really wasnt. Jay was relevant, but he wasnt as hot as Ja, Nelly and them. I was 14 in 2002, how old were you?

Ja stayed hot because he was a pseudo singing rapping artist. No one at that time listened to him for his straight rap records. Only ones I can think of are Holla Holla and I'm from NY and maybe Clap Back. Ja tried to be X Pac and LL all rolled in one.

Dude 2001 and 2002 you couldn't play radio, MTV or BET without hearing Ja Rule. Only Nelly and Eminem were selling more. Jay was hot too but Ja was everywhere.
Other n*ggas were hot.

But Hov was running sh*t.

No, DMX, then Eminem, then 50, then Kanye, then Wayne, now Drizzy.
From Hard Knock Life to The Black Album, Jay Z was the most dominant rapper in the game

Then it was 50, then Wayne, then Drake

Not Kanye and Not Eminem.

Kanye was hot, but 50 and Wayne both had the crown during his prime.

Eminem was beefing with Pop stars and making school shooter music while Jay Z was dropping classics and redefining the entire business model of being a rapper

Running rap is more than being on the radio all the time

Eminem was running rap way greater than Drake could imagine.

Em and Hov music was just about equally good, but Em pushed his pen more. Hov started swag-rapping. so the edge goes to Em.

Regardless of the subject matter, I just want to hear some fu*king Rap!

Not a Jay fan at all, but in all fairness, Em had a whole another demographic ears, compares to most Black artists. So no it wasnt only that he pushed his pen more.

He got that fanbase from his skills. Plenty white rappers came and went, but his music execution was flawless.

Talkin about skills, Em is not better than Mos Def, Lupe .. n the list goes on.

Lets not change the narrative to why he sold all them records.

I don't think anyone on the planet would argue that Fat Joe ran rap at any point, not even his biggest fan. Seems like a strawman to me

None of them bums got skills like Em LOL

Lupe been trash and dont know how to pronounce his words well. Yall hype him up, he doesnt know how to spit like that.

He lyrical, but he lack basic fundamental.

Mos Def is a decent rapper, but not the type of lyricist I would compare to Em.

These dudes make bad music too. Em made legit full body projects, classic albums, like dude, Em is a Rap Superstar.

You cant just get some bummy a*s old concious rappers and just pretend that everybody on the same level.

Like when did mf start lying on Lupe this hard LOL

Rules peak was much higher than joe. Higher than most rappers honestly. But Joe’s career overall >>>Ja. 50 turned ja into a laughing stock. He tried to do the same to joe but joe was too well respected.

Nobody ran rap between 98-2002. Guys like Juvenile, Ludacris, Master P, Eminem, Nelly and Outkast have just as much claim during that time period as anyone else.

I just mentioned few ppl that could see him on the mic. His music catalogue is another story and that aged horribly.

Yeah Em made full body projects but content was trash, no replay value. His reliance on gimmicks is another main reason why his music aged horribly. Lets not dance around the subject. Em was hot because he was white

I just jammed Em not too long ago. It didnt age badly, he himself aged, and then people started rewriting history about what he did at his peek.

Them n*ggas cant see nobody on no mic homie, stop it.

Its been plenty of white rappers, but none of them rapped harder than the black rappers, like Em did.

Em wasnt just no regular dude. Make him black, it changes nothing.

It just takes away the gimmick of him being white.

A black Eminem spitting on that level, with that specific trailer park lane, school shooter vibes, silly trolling, mixed with flawless lyrical execution, he would be a major superstar, regardless.

Yall think that if Em is black, he all of a sudden becomes Nas, or Lupe? They sound nothing alike.

If Em was black, he would be Redman/Canibus. The reason he moved all them units was now millions of white kids could relate to him.
