Not his fault. You can’t bench young star players. The NBA has turned into a appease stars at all cost and don’t dare do anything to hurt their image even if it hurts the team.

Blaming Doc for this overpaid mental midget isnt really fair.

There's definitely plenty of blame to go around, the front office, coaching, & Ben.

Front office shouldn't of shelled out all that dough...

Coaching should have lit a fire under Ben a*s at some point, cant keep babying his a*s, they let him get away with being however he wants to be, instead of setting expectations, he clearly needs some direction with his game.

He just gotta step it up. Its hard to argue taking him out, because if you put someone else in, its likely a lesser defender... All he really gotta do is man up. They paid a boy.... Now he's maxxed out, with no motivation to get any better.

This is why Kobe was who he was

He knew there were dudes like Ben Simmons who spent 4 and 5 summers never working on their weaknesses

How dudes get by like that is beyond me, but today's NBA im not surprised since its more about money.

how can you get paid all the money to play basketball and be afraid to shoot it? he shouldn't be afraid of nothing on that court

I like what Pippen had to say there and I think Doc should've benched Ben but... Doc just doesn't coach that way and I think his style can work it just needs to be really, really well managed.

Doc likes to pump up his players constantly. He basically chooses his guys at the beginning of the year and will ride with them through thick and thin even if they have a rough stretch or their play declines for some reason. It is IMO one of his bigger weaknesses as a coach. Too ride or die. But you do see players develop confidence under him that they have a hard time replicating elsewhere because of the way he expresses confidence in his guys pretty much no matter what. It takes truly abysmal play for a good while to fall out of Doc's rotation once you're in there.

On the flip side, and where I think he wears on teams, is that this sort of ride of die I love my guys no matter what sort of style feels like a low accountability or no accountability culture and I think it ends up turning locker rooms. Doc needs a coach on the floor type like Chris Paul or KG and Rondo... don't think he had that in LA or in PHI...

I agree with Scottie that Doc should've pulled him ultimately. You have to put winning before ego or anything else and he let Simmons be out there to put up the worst free throw performance in league history and it wasn't like he was scoring to make up for missing the freebies...

All that is, is a stubbornness to make adjustments, not ride or die

He won't even play the young guys, talking about not giving confidence

Doesn't matter if he sees his team is about to collapse, the dude will not change and thing and stick with his "save me star player" approach before blaming them for lack of "effort" when he's eliminated

i understand. to win the championship doc knew he needed dude and he wanted to show trust and belief in him as to not fu*k up his confidence. he's already fragile minded benching could have made it worse. i would have still benched his a*s but i get docs thinking

Does anybody else play with all the 2s are the highest spades and it goes hearts, clubs, diamonds, spades? I thought that was standard operating procedure but apparently it's not.

Truth is Ben Simmons should have been given the keys if they wanted to see him work out. Spread the court like they do with other players.

The league is about luck and he is unlucky to have Embiid. Don't forget when Embiid was in and out the line up for a few years Simmons held them down.

Exactly. If management gave the co-sign to bench Simmons if he was a liability crunch time he would.

They realized they weren't winning the title and set up Ben to be the scapegoat

Embiid takes no hit
Doc hates no hit

They move on

Even if that’s true. As a guard being able to shoot a basketball is like 75% of the game

Well technically at 3 in Scotties time you weren’t expected to either, just play solid defense and get rebounds as well as put back points, or drive to the rack and make free throws
