Memphis Hip-Hop was the most ahead of it's time regionally

They had 808's and bouncy snares and were rappin double time in the early-mid 90's

west coast n*ggas and uncle luke were teh forfather of trap music or heavy bass sound.

but it wasn't trap music or having five bass tones switch in one loop.

it was party rap or s*x rap.

actually this drum kit is what dj paul and juicy j used to make alot of there beats.

he said he combine new york sampel soudns with southern 808s.

he said n*ggas down south like to party and love bass.

Arthur Baker was the first Producer in Hip-Hop to use 808's on Planet Rock and It's Yours by T La Rock, but what Memphis did with 808's and rappin double time became the sound modern sound of Hip-Hop (ah hum.... ATL) 20 years later, which is what we're referencing here.

Yeah each regional sound came from something they heard from NY. That's not a shot at any other region that just how sh*t be like when you're first to do something. Just like with Hip Hop they partied to certain parts (breaks) of Funk, Jazz, Rock, and Disco records. Other Regions just emphasized certain sh*t more than others.

WAT

people thinking that today's music is any "new" need to really do some research.

Since hiphop got commercialized to the bone, it converged and there are very little differences between regions, unlike how it was over 20 years ago.

Nothing is really new, just some mild changes here and there and a huge cater to "what's hot"

I made a beat in 2004 that sounds nearly as similar to the music nowadays with heavy 808's and slowed-down heavy hi-hats that most people would call 'new'
