Jun 17 - New Jersey Ranked No. 1 State To Live In

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Wondering which states are the best to live in? A new survey ranked New Jersey as the No. 1 state to live in.

WalletHub released its 2021’s Best States to Live In list Tuesday.

They compared the 50 states based on 52 factors including housing costs, income growth, education rate, and quality of hospitals.

New Jersey ranked No. 1 overall and No. 4 in the lowest crime rate.

Pennsylvania ranked No. 10 overall and Delaware came in No. 32.

The other states in the top three were Massachusetts and New York.

Methodology

In order to determine the best and worst states to live in, WalletHub compared the 50 states across five key dimensions: 1) Affordability, 2) Economy, 3) Education & Health, 4) Quality of Life, and 5) Safety.

We evaluated those dimensions using 52 relevant metrics, which are listed below with their corresponding weights. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable living conditions. For metrics marked with an asterisk (*), the square root of the population was used to calculate the population size in order to avoid overcompensating for minor differences across states.

Finally, we determined each state’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order the states.

Lived in nj 24/32 out of my years on earth. Lived in three other states and traveled a bunch. It's a great state. Beaches and jersey shore poppin in the summer. North jersey just over the water from the mecca in nyc if you're into the city thing. They have country areas in your into farming and agriculture. And they have mountain/outdoors areas in the state too. From super rich to poor nj has it all. Great food. Race issues ain't really a thing. Gov and politics is kinda sh*t atm. Ppl can be a little rude at times but we dont play that fake bullsh*t like some states. With all that being said....... Nj still prob ain't the best state lolll. But its def up there and ppl from other states have no clue at times. Just have seen jersey shore or drive through the industrial areas which are both sh*t.

Judging by how the media has talked about Jersey throughout my life it probably became a giant middle class suburb for people that couldn't afford NY

Jersey is near major cities such as NY or Philly, depending in the part of the state you live in, we don't have to get out of our car to pump gas, there are mountainous/country/suburb areas to live in, or you can live in the more urban areas. No major weather problems like floods and hurricanes that happen in other states.

NJ gets flack not only because of NYC trashing it throughout the media for years, but because it doesn't have a major city. Cities like Newark, Jersey, Atlantic City, and Trenton are much smaller than other major cities, which makes sense because it's a smaller state compared to other states. If the cities were bigger and major, and wasn't outshined by NYC or Philly, it would probably be more of an attraction.

damn near anything you want you can find in jersey. i don't know too much about any particularly iconic jersey foods, but there's just so many different cultures in the state and it makes for some fire a*s food. italian, caribbean, middle eastern, south american, etc. they got it all

that's exactly why i couldn't live somewhere without a lot of different cultures around, i need that variety.
