My Father passed away from Covid May 1st.

This was/is single handedly the biggest loss of our lives.

He told us he was positive, and within a month and two weeks, he passed.

No chance to see physically along the way prior to being intubated.

Just gone.

Quick.

Those two months; during and after his passing, was the state of shock.

The shock has diminished, now we are in the accepting the “reality” phase which is dark, angry etc.

My mom just came to my crib a week ago.

And with life insurance, benefits are now being distributed.

She hands me a check, and it was and is one of the most eye opening experiences for me.

Because it validated the reality we are trying so hard not accept.

There really isn’t a price for a loved one.

My children want their Grandfather here, my siblings want their Father here.

My cousins want their Uncle here.

My Mom wants her Husband here.

Two weeks after he passed, was my parents 31st year anniversary.

Imagine how that was, taking her out.

Emotional for all of us.

He also died the very first day his retirement began.

May 1st he passes, May 1st his retirement went into effect.

Hence the anger from us?

My question now, given the title of the thread; what can i do With $10,000?

I do not want to spend it on anything other than what would be productive or beneficial to my children.

I need Financial advice, I need your help.

What can I do to flip what i have?

Spending it foolishly would be disrespecting who this man was and his life’s worth, which there is no amount to compare to…

I second that motion family!! This is sound advice. Stay away from all "investment tips, crypto sh*t". Go with the Money market accounts!
Write a list of bills that you owe,
save a good portion!

Credit union Secured Credit cards- very useful and jumps ya credit up fast! This will be long lasting and with you after the 10k is gone!

Accounting student here….

You need to grieve. Hold your money. My grandmother just died when Covid first started. Just hold the money get through the grieving process then think about financial decisions.

Never make a decision when you have emotions/emotional.

Take your time.

Edit:
This was/is single handedly the biggest loss of our lives.

Take your time.

Emotional for all of us.

This is why I said hold. Get through the grieving process then think about the money.

There really isn’t a price for a loved one.

So it will be easy for you to focus on grieving instead of the money.

First, sorry for your loss. Now, to answer your question:

You mentioned something for your grandkids -

Look into a 529 account for your kids college.

Also, make sure you are maximizing your IRA every year if you qualify.

These are both (can be) minimal risk responsible actions that you can feel good about and will be around for a good purpose years later.

My fault family my Condolences offtop, I should have said that 1st before blabbering with my info

Depending on what state your in there Def should a few in your town, but your not limited to just your state. All of them just require online application, and funds to transfer. Almost any one can join navy federal credit union they are considered the best! Check out my boy he goes the full steps online to applying and what to expect and etc
edit- with navy federal you can actually open a secured credit card using another debit card! I literally called and used my Mastercard to open up a secured Visa in mins! And had the new virtual card info sent via email in 24 hours

Just put the money away and sit on it for 1 year.

That way, you can figure out what you want to do with a fresh mind.

Don't know your fiscal situation or your age, but if you're under 35 start a ROTH IRA. Or pay off your CC debt if you got any.

I mean 10k ain't alot but it is at the same time. It really depend on what kind of hustle you got. Put it in stocks or crypto is what some will say. Pay down debt is what others will say. Me personally I'd put 10 on a pack and have a lot of extras basically. But my girl has her own business where we make customized weed trays and ash trays or lighters and sh*t like that. We got a cricket 2 where we customize clothes. I could put that 10 into expanding those businesses if I wanted.

So like I said earlier 10 is a cool starting point for a hustle if you got it or anything to make yo money work for you. Or just spend it

Im sure there are plenty of BX members you should listen to before me when it comes to money, but I'd throw it in an ETF or two.

SCHG
FBCG

are two that comes to mind. Easy 10% returns yearly. Let that compound
