What Are The Most Used Cliches In Video Games?

Just some things you get tired of that every game seems to do. Name your top 5!

1. Always escorting someone who can’t defend themselves

2. Having to f*ght hordes of villains while your friendly AI has to unlock a door or put a code in or deactivate a bomb..... and u gotta protect them too

3. Friendly AI always having to “run off” or “take care of something else” or my favorite, gets “separated” from you just when you need them the most

4. Having to backtrack out of a building.... with a time limit. And for reason it’s always 2 minutes.

5. The person or organization you’re working with ending up being the villains the whole time.

You can always tell when a certain character is going to fu*k you over

I was surprised when the dude you grew up with in Ghost of Tsushima switched sides though

Game was a masterpiece

In RPGs when they have you f*ght a strong a*s character near or a bit past the beginning of the game that you always end up f*ghting much later. They either dont take damage or all attacks miss and then 3 turns later they do a move that one hits everybody and a cutscene plays right after

Reviving antagonists that you've already k*lled earlier for some bullsh*t reason

Sending you on a wild goosechase all over the map looking for someone/something and it always at the last spot you check

or storylines where ordinary everyday normal people suddenly have a bad day and now are able to f*ght off hordes of paramilitaries/zombies etc with a pistol and a knife

Plot takes a turn for the worse 2/3 of the way from the game and you have to rise up again to win. That's pretty much every RPG, especially Final Fantasy.

Japanese action/adventure games taking a turn to the super natural about 2/3s of the way through.

I used to hate that ish in Tenchu as a tween. Semi-scared of the undead and they all got way more health/strength than the armored soldiers you'd faced all game. Probably can't be k*lled in a conventional way (need a spirit sword, special move or some nonsense).

Make you want to put that ish down all together

In older setting games like God of War, the ol' k*ll all the enemies before the spike ceiling falls on you. Used in all the old games and the newest addition and I'm sure the same that is used for games similar

In the midst of full scale combat you get shot about 5 or 6 times. Being the vet you are you realize the best course of action is to go hide somewhere for about 8 seconds or so while all your wounds magically heal up and then you right back in the f*ght.

Gta 3, Vice City, and San Andreas I used cheat codes (but I don't feel bad as I think remembering and typing the codes was a skill in itself) and when I played Gta 4 it changed things. I wouldn't necessarily say it became easier but that duck and cover system made it possible I didn't have to use cheats anymore.

Also the Drake games are a cliché as him continuously falling and things breaking underneath from him is like a running gag that works in the beginning but by the end you are well aware the this short moment of stability will be broken by something collapsing under from him for the 3 hundredth and 31st time now.

Yeah there was a time when I thought video games were going to be the new interactive movie with options on how it all turned out
Haven't played in a while but now I see how they're pretty much all similar

-A stealth/spy mission gone wrong and you have to shoot your way out
-Chase missions where you aren't allowed to catch the target until a specific point in the mission
-Boss battles where you have to repeatedly do the same thing over and over to defeat the boss (ie. Blocking or dodging the enemy to "stun" them, striking them a few times, repeat)

And I'm def with you on the missions where they give you a useless AI partner. Hate those lmao.

It got repetitive at some point, but i overlooked it because I loved playing it. But I can see how people would get tired.
