basically should cities have unarmed civilians traffic enforcement give out tickets to violators without doing background checks or anything else invasive?

Heck fu*king yeah.

If you’re pulling someone over for a taillight that’s out, just give the warning or ticket and let them move on.

Hell naw

These jails ain't gon fill themselves. Over policing leads to more criminal charges. State prosecutors, private prisons, CO'S all need to get paid.

So instead of proper training they are just to more meter maids handing out tickets???

Yeah like that's going to work.

I saw someone argue that cops shouldn't even do traffic stops. Just take the tags down and mail the ticket. There was more to it but it was really convincing.

Berkeley CA already banned traffic stops. Hopefully, SF, Oakland and the rest of the Bay Area follow that tactic

The negative side of that is the person driving a car may not be the registered owner of the car.

That’s the reason a cop asks for identification as soon as a cop pulls someone over.

A traffic stop should not end in a person’s death. I agree with that part.

I'd vote yes for civilians (no wannabe cops, though) , but no to the cameras.

This thread makes no sense on what you wrote op , law enforcement needs to stop profiling & stopping people over bs a*sumptions .i think if a coppoer stops someone for going over a line ,he needs to show proof of the suspects vehicle going over that line . I have seen video of cops doing radar , losing the suspected speeder & pulling over the wrong vehicle to issue a ticket . Why does the canine cop always find a reason to search someone's vehicle , that just proves that it's bs. Policing or traffic cops are more about money than anything else .

I tried to give a short summary because I know BX can't always watch videos

under the hypothetical law change K9s wouldn't be needed during traffic stops, a stop would simply ticket you for speeding and move on, no search or questioning where your going

They adding traffic cameras everywhere. I saw 2 new ones on my way to work, and they were updating another one.

They are going to get back all that money they lost during the shutdown.

I was always of the opinion that there should be a citizens based policing group to police the police...

No.
I would like to see independiente boards of community leadership review police policy.

I also feel like the cops need longer training and evaluation. 1 year is not enough.

We need budget regulation as well. Cops don't need war ready vehicles. They are a peace keeping body not the armed forces.

Lastly, they need to crack down on police unions that push that warrior cop mentality and allow terrible officers to stay on the force even after numerous complaints.

*To add get rid of quantified immunity

I feel all of that can be achieved once the unions are gone

Same here.

I remember seeing the shift to strengthen the police unions after 9/11, but as always American over correct and gave away the kitchen sink to these unions.

Now the feds need to get involved to regulate the Frankenstein they created.
