I see both sides

Landlord is a dummy for not having savings, but him being a landlord =\= he’s a bad guy that deserves bad treatment.

But, for tenants to organize like this and not pay, it’s either a low-income apartment or he’s a sh*tty manager.

Either way, they’re not feeling him for some reason.

I agree. The 32 tenants shouldn't spend a dime and that one dude should pay for everything especially if the building is still being paid for.

This is just a tough situation. I’m leaning towards siding with the landlord simply because I think it’s a stretch that EVERYBODY is out of work. The landlord should probably just sit down with each tenant and find out who is really in need of a*sistance and who is just piggybacking off the others. He should certainly understand that these are very different times and things are out of order right now. And regardless if they don’t pay this month, they’d still be on the hook for the back rent whenever the quarantine lifts.

He should refuse to pay the mortgage on the building like Cheesecake Factory refuses to pay the lease at their various locations. He ain't got it, he can't give it.

Then:
✓Wait for the coronavirus to be over
✓Collect as many rents as possible until the bank & sheriff enforces the foreclosure.
✓Take the money, and run... Go bankrupt and hide your savings from creditors.

my last landlord screwed me over and ain't give me back my damage deposit he was also very mean and just not a good person but I didnt see the righting on the wall cus I was so excited to have my first place , so I do feel resentful about them in general but at the same time this doesnt neccesarily seem fair either...its a tough spot really, maybe they can have an extension
You know if you live in Ontario they cant legally charge you damage deposits, so just pay it but subtract it from the last month of rent that you pay for before you move out. Tell them your subtracting the damage deposit and if they trip then tell them the law.

Seems like dude finally got enough capital and a good deal on a building that he could rent out. Did so, and now is finding out that itís not an easy buck and is on the hook for lots of money to the bank. If they donít cut him a deal, his credit is gonna be shot and he will be SOL.
