icon Most Powerful Weapons In The Marvel Universe, Ranked By Destructive Force

The Marvel Universe is home to a lot of weird, interesting, and impressive gadgets and weapons. The most powerful weapons of Marvel are seldom seen, mostly because they’re so omnipotent it becomes difficult for writers to work around their destructive abilities.

For example, if Thor is truly in possession of an all-powerful Necrosword capable of taking down Galactus, then why doesn’t he use it all of the time? This is why we see a lot of tame weapons in the Marvel Universe. Many of these weapons are only used in desperate times against the biggest baddies, and the rarity of these weapons from Marvel comics only adds to their intrigue.

There is quite a history of legendary character weapons in comic books, and Marvel is no exception. Not all of the uber-destructive items present in the Marvel Universe are tied to one character in particular, but many are. Marvel has a bevy of well-armed, superpowered individuals ready to show just how mighty their weapons can be.

1.) Infinity Gauntlet
image

What It Is: The Infinity Gauntlet is probably the most famous glove in the history of fiction, and it’s the all-powerful item at the center of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Gauntlet is actually more like six weapons, as it’s merely a conduit through which the powers of the six Infinity Stones can be channelled and amplified. Thanos is the most notable wielder of the Infinity Gauntlet, but not the only one!

What It Does: The Infinity Gauntlet essentially makes its wearer omnipotent, so there’s very little it cannot do. Thanos has used it to slap around cosmic deities, and in the actual Infinity Gauntlet he used the device to absolutely annihilate the entirety of Marvel’s roster of superheroes.

2.) Odin's Sword
image

What It Is: The Odinsword is a storied aspect of Asgardian history. Originally, it was a ridiculously oversized sword said to end the universe if were ever unsheathed. Eventually, the blade was shrunk down to massive-but-wieldable size, and Odin gave it to his son, Thor.

What It Does: Little is known of the destructive power of the Odinsword because it has rarely been used. However, both Odin and Thor think of it as more powerful than Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer. Thor is able to use the Odinsword to slay Cul, the brother of Odin, who is said to be just as strong as the Allfather.

3.) All-Black The Necrosword
image

What It Is: All-Black the Necrosword has a seriously heavy metal name, which is suitable, given it's the signature weapon of Gorr the God Butcher. Gorr is a recent addition to Thor’s rogues’ gallery, but he was a memorable one; he went on a campaign of god-ki1ling across the universe, using his Necrosword to masterful effect.

What It Does: The Necrosword is capable of ki1ling some of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe - the gods. In fact, it gets stronger with each god it ki1ls. In one story depicting the far-flung future of Earth, an elderly Thor used All-Black to slay Galactus, proving the Necrosword is one of the deadliest weapons in existence.

4.) Ultimate Nullifier
image

What It Is: The Ultimate Nullifier is the first of many ridiculously strong items to show up in the Marvel Universe. The Watcher gave it to the Fantastic Four so they could use it to scare Galactus away from Earth. The Nullifier has since been used mainly as the ultimate threat, and it usually works, despite its nondescript appearance.

What It Does: The Ultimate Nullifier’s abilities are ill-defined, but it can basically annihilate anything at which it is pointed. It is also quite difficult to control, and it has a nasty habit of nullifying its wielder along with its target. In the hands of someone with sufficient power, the Ultimate Nullifier is said to be able to destroy entire universes.

5.) The Mandarin's Rings
image

What It Is: Portrayals of the Mandarin have changed over the years (thanks to his origins as a racist stereotype), but his infamous ten rings have remained. The rings, which are worn on all of his digits, were originally assumed to be magic in nature, but were later revealed to be pieces of alien technology.

What It Does: Each of the Mandarin’s ten rings has a different power, and many of them are extremely destructive. The rings can blast lightning and wind, channel the vacuums of space, or even affect things at the subatomic level. Whatever it is that needs to be destroyed, chances are at least of the rings can do the job.

6.) Excalibur
image

What It Is: Excalibur is the most notable sword in fictional history, both in comics and in other literary works. Excalibur is the sword of the legendary King Arthur. It is often confused with the Sword in the Stone - which Arthur had to draw to prove himself King - but the two are actually different blades. Excalibur is the ultimate weapon, and it has been wielded by a number of British superheroes, like Captain Britain and the Black Knight.

What It Does: Excalibur is as strong as any sword can possibly be. According to legend, the blade is capable of ki1ling*anything, no matter how immortal they may be, and it carries all manner of magical abilities with it to boot.

7.) Mjolnir
image

What It Is: Mjolnir, the magic hammer of the Mighty Thor, is probably the best known weapon in the history of Marvel Comics. Made of the mystical metal Uru, Mjolnir is imbued with all sorts of special powers, including the ability to fly, control the weather, and return to its holder’s hand when summoned. The hammer’s most famous trait is the fact it can only be lifted by those it deems worthy.

What It Does: Mjolnir is incredibly destructive. The hammer produces and controls Cosmic Energy. It is made of an indestructible metal and can be hurled at ridiculous speeds. Very few objects can resist the force of an oncoming Mjolnir.

8.) Gungnir
image

What It Is: Gungnir is to Odin as Mjolnir is to Thor. Odin’s spear, like Mjolnir, is made of Uru metal and can return to its wielder's hand when summoned. The spear is meant to only be carried by Odin but during the periods in which Odin has been dead others have picked it up, including a number of mortals.

What It Does: Gungnir is pretty much a sharp and pointy version of Mjolnir, and when thrown, very little in the Marvel Universe can stop it. Even when used for hand-to-hand combat, Gungnir is deadly, as it cleaves through the limbs of superstrong individuals.

9.) Muramasa Blade
image

What It Is: The Muramasa Blade is a magical sword of ancient Japanese origins, and it has usually been associated with a character who spent much of his time in Japan - Wolverine. The sword has been used by Wolverine to pull off some impressive feats, including permanently putting down his archrival, Sabretooth.

What It Does: The Muramasa Blade is more notable for what it prevents than what it does. The Blade is equally as strong as Wolverine’s adamantium claws, and it has the magical ability to stop all healing factors. Described as an “immortal ending blade,” the Muramasa specializes in ki1ling the unki1lable.

10.) Nega-Bands
image

What It Is: The Nega-Bands are a weapon created by the Supreme Intelligence of the Kree, an alien race. Worn on the wrists, these super-powered bracelets can channel the energy of the Negative Zone, an alternate dimension discovered by the Fantastic Four. The Bands have been worn most notably by Captain Marvel and Quasar, two cosmic heroes.

What It Does: The Nega-Bands grant wh0ever is wearing them a number of terrific abilities, all derived from the energies of the Negative Zone. This can be tr@nslated into pure physical strength, allowing the wearer to throw punches as powerful as those of the Incredible Hulk.

11.) Universal Weapon
image

What It Is: The Universal Weapon has a fairly boring name, but it is probably the second most famous warhammer in the Marvel Universe. Wielded by Ronan the Accuser - the most powerful member of the alien Kree race - the Universal Weapon was famously merged with the power of an Infinity Stone in Guardians of the Galaxy.

What It Does: Even without an Infinity Stone, the Universal Weapon can deal out some impressive damage. Its internal power can be channeled in a number of ways, including energy blasts and force fields. The hammer itself is also incredibly dense, making it a deadly blunt weapon. Ronan has used the Universal Weapon to crush the head of one of Thanos’s generals.

12.) Ebony Blade
image

What It Is: The Ebony Blade is the proverbial double-edged sword. Wielded by a number of Black Knights over the years - including one who joined the Avengers - the sword gives its user a major power upgrade, but it comes as a terrible cost. The Ebony Blade is cursed, and it always drives its wielders into violent madness.

What It Does: The Ebony Blade is said to be able to cut through anything, although a number of exceptions, like adamantium and vibranium, have been found. The sword can even affect magical things, and it imbues wh0ever holds it with mystical protections and immortality.

13.) Golden Mace
image

What It Is: The Golden Mace is the traditional weapon of Hercules, and it was created for him by fellow Greek god Hephaestus. The Golden Mace doesn’t have many special abilities, but it is ridiculously strong and durable. It's made out of adamantine, a mythological metal whose name inspired adamantium, the metal bonded to Wolverine’s bones.

What It Does: The Golden Mace needs to be wielded by someone with some sort of superpower, and it is basically unbreakable. Once the Mace gets moving, it tends to smash through things. The Golden Mace is so strong that once Hercules was able to use it to bash in the skull of a robotic clone of Thor.

15.) Evil Eye
image

What It Is: The Evil Eye is a relic from Marvel’s more innocent days, which explains why it looks like a really big flashlight. The Eye is made up of six different pieces which are often scattered around the Earth to prevent its power from falling into the wrong hands. Otherwise, it’s your basic point and shoot energy weapon.

What It Does: The Evil Eye has rarely been used, but it has been sought out by enough evil and powerful supervillains, like Loki. The Eye can likely damage even those with cosmic powers or mythological origins.
