Did Michael Jordan comeback from baseball because of the threat of Scottie Pippen?

I know, in retrospect it sounds crazy. Scottie isn't touching Jordan's legacy. But put yourself back in 1995, when Jordan unretired from basketball and rejoined the Chicago Bulls.

Look at Scottie's young (still only 29) career at that point.

Look at his resume from '90-'94:

- All-Star '90, '92-'94

- 3x NBA Champion

- Averages of 19.1 PPG, 7.6 Reb, 6.1 Ast, 2.4 Stl, 1.0 Blk

- Coming off a career high in points per game in 1994

- Finished 3rd in a very tight MVP race in 1994. Won All-Star Game MVP. Was considered by many to be the best player in the game during that time.

- 1st in Steals and Steals Per Game (Steals King - back when being the leader in steals or blocks was a bigger accomplishment) in 1995

He would routinely put up MONSTER numbers in big games in the Playoffs:

29/12/5/4/4 to close out the Cavs in '92

24, 10A, 9 vs Portland in the Finals

32 Points, 13 Reb, 7 Ast, 5 Stl (!) while defending Magic in 1991 Finals

There's no proof and I know it sounds crazy, but I think on some level that Jordan was threatened by Scottie back then. Pippen has even said numerous times that he was trying to be the best player in the league.

Also it was weird that MJ didn't have Scottie as one of his guys at his HOF Induction.

Think about it though. If Jordan NEVER comes back to the NBA, and if Chicago STILL makes the trade for Rodman, and a*suming the Bulls win at least 1 title during that era, with Pippen putting up those monster numbers, what happens to Jordan's legacy? Obviously he would still be considered by many to be the GOAT, because that was happening before the first title. But what does his legacy look like to Scottie's? Where does Scottie end up. How would MJ potentially feel about that?

Nobody knows, but it makes for interesting discussion.

BXs narrative that Pippen wasn't instrumental in Jordans success and that correlation doesn't mean causation.

Especially 1992. Jordan had a down year (for his standards) and Pippen had one of his best season. The gap between them as impact players then was very very slim. Even tho Jordan gets the acclaim.

I don't know if I agree with this especially on the offensive end. Sure Scottie took the harder defensive a*signment but they would trade off too.

Didn’t they lead the east or were a top 2-3 seed without MJ?

I think this played about 20% into his mindset he definitely saw that and thought.

Naw MJ was just cheeks bro. Media wants you to believe MJ was great at eating dinner but unfortunately MJ just a great athlete but just didn’t have any competitive peers in the game

He was told to take a year out for his gambling problems. Rather than a suspension of the face of the NBA they let him take his own route.

He was forced retired by David stern for betting on NBA games. Mob wanted him to lose the finals, and he said fu*k no, so they k*lled his dad. Stern forced him out the league.

In his retirement press conference they asked him if he’d ever come back. His response: if David stern lets me.

They was 34-31 threat of missing playoffs before MJ came back and won over 70% of the remaining games. Scottie had the same coach, same role players, they added players, nobody else left so he had a 3peat team and coach right? so he was round 2 exit his first cinderella year. After the magic of trying to prove he was also a man like MJ after that first season, prime pippen got you 34-31. At least he was 500 that second season until MJ came back rusty and still won 70% of the remaining games only to lose to the Magic. All that old talk MJ lost the magic sh*t revved him up and 72-10 and the revenge sweep happened. Scotties next most famous moment without MJ was losing the 15 point 4th qtr lead while he was the glue guy in portland and could have k*lled the GOAT franchise 3peat from even starting. Guess the n*gga had migraines again.
