3 Reasons The Irishman is an Instant Classic

1. It put the gangster life into proper perspective. It's a very dark lifestyle where you end up locked up, snekkid by your own people and/ or k*lled. That was why showed put how each guy died in text. You don't make it out the life. Scorsese spent a career glorifying this lifestyle but this movie helped put it all in its proper perspective.

2. This movie cleverly tricked the viewer into watching a 30 minute short film (at the end) about how real it is face our own mortality. Nobody makes it out of here alive and most of us who love mob movies would never really be interested in something like that but he snuck that shyt in so smooth. Why? Probably because at 76 yrs old, he's dealing with these realities himself and wanted to share. Who better to shed light on that part of life than the goat?

3. It was the last time we'll see these legends working together. When you think about the fact that these guys made true classics together and then decided to do it one more time, even with Pesci being sick, it makes you appreciate it even more.

Dope film all the way around.

Only agree with the third point.

Point 1 is an unnecessary message. Point 2 is an interesting way of putting it, but it unnecessarily made a 3 hour film 3.5 hours.

Overall, I wasn't a fan of it. It just felt so long and unnecessary. Seeing all 3 actors on screen was amazing though.

The Irishman is 3.5 hours and you definitely feel it. The last half hour just felt so unnecessary. So much of film felt slow and winding just for the sake of it.

Unnecessary? You trolling?

I just explained exactly why it's important. Point 2 is why Point 1 was so important.

Scorsese is at the end of his career/ life and reflecting on his legacy and the impact of his work. It's actually pretty fkn poetic if you think about it.

the last half hour sums up everything. if someone doesn't get that, they probably won't get anything or appreciate the film.

Masterful film.

The "de-aging" CGI took a bit to adjust to though. And I would have preferred a quicker wrap-up, especially if it meant they could have gone deeper into the Mob's relationship with the CIA

The last 30 minutes was the most interesting part. Pacino stole the show and I loved the ballroom scene where all legends were in the same room

Maybe its me but this movie was long as hell and overhyped. "Hoffa" definitely stole the show tho. I agree with the 3 points you put up there. But Departed, Casino and Goodfellas

the very reason these movies are popular is bc most ppl aint about that life yet want to experience it vicariously. "theme park movies" are about topics that are so far out there but we all know someone in real life who be doing dirt or at least u see these dirtbags everywhere if u actually go out there and mingle. so i guess i kinda see why scorcese thinks less of the ppl that go gaga over the avengers because to him its like how can you feel anything personal or humane about those fantasies?

flashy portrayal of wiseguys is counterbalanced by the fact (whether actually shown on the screen or not) that they tomorrow aint guaranteed (well, that goes same for every mortal being but these criminals are real living the life on the edge, with much higher likelihood of "it was all good just a week ago") so its not just about "glorifying" that lifestyle. its more like look they gots to be doing the most just to forget knowing that death is just around the corner for the night

even on my first watching of the Goodfellas and Casino, i couldnt think for a sec oh man i wanna live like these guys. what they had to put on line to get that thrilling life for a very limited amount of time wasnt worth it and scorceses films always seem to make that point clear at least to me
