Phil may not have had plays - allegedly - but he was able to tame Kobe somewhat, and get him to submit himself to the pecking order.

That was enough.

Then next week he'll come back and say how important coaching is. This n*gga is an idiot when it comes to analysis of the game.

You can tell Shaq was just fu*king around with what he said. He was trying to hold his laugh in the whole time when Kenny & Charles came back at him. Best damn sports show

Shaq is right though. Not saying coaches are useless, but they get more credit than they deserve. Great players make coaches look great, not the other way around.

Take Luke Walton's bum a*s with the Warriors when he coached them to an undefeated record, then he got exposed as the trash coach he actually is after he went to LA. Or even Steve Kerr now that he doesn't have 5 all stars. Spoelstra IMO is a good coach, but he wouldn't have won without the Heatles and wouldn't be considered as one of the better coaches in the league had it not been for those 2 rings.

That's the equivalent of Isiah Thomas going from being an MVP candidate to barely playing the next year under a different coach... The same situation you mentioned happens with players as well...

Steve Nash went from a fringe all-star to a perennial all-NBA multi winning MVP under a different coach... Dude went from never coming close to leading the league in a*sists to winning 4 a*sists title under a different coach...

Just because these scenarios happen doesn't mean the end results weren't because of good coaching... your luke walton point was horrible because Luke was the a*sistant coach with the Warriors... Nothing changed when he took over... They were still running the same scheme they were with Kerr... He didn't take over and implement his own coaching... So we don't know what Luke Walton coaching capability is

He lost LeBron and Bosh and wasn’t able to get anything in return for them. If we were able to trade either of them for a Superstar/All-Star to pair with Wade, we would’ve still been competitive for a few more years. We already had our division on lock.

Isaiah Thomas got injured, that's not the same at all. He barely played and struggled with injuries since he left Boston. He came back and got injured again, basically missed an entire season.

And Steve Nash wasn't in his prime until his last couple of years in Dallas, which is when he became an all star. MDA didn't make Nash great, he became an all star in Dallas and he had a great team around him in Phoenix that won a lot of games and got him the MVP award.

Again I'm not saying coaches are useless. But MDA on Phoenix had great players and went deep in the playoffs. MDA on the Knicks and Lakers had trash players and didn't do sh*t. It was the same coach.

Technically he’s right and wrong...

Great players can make a bum or average coach look like gold
But on that same coin
A great coach can make some bum to average players overachieve.

I think he meant as far as in game coaching. Coaches prepare you for the game and instill a system/gameplan. It’s up to the players to execute.
