I know a lot of folks who speak highly of cube as a man

...but as a business man, I've heard he has a habit of doing people dirty & lowballing.
He only paid Chris Tucker & John Witherspoon $5K for Friday

Chris Tucker was already relatively well known from doing def comedy jam - he was like the dc young fly of his time.
"New Line Cinema, who granted finance in exchange for a seasoned comedian in one of the lead roles. During casting, Ice Cube and DJ Pooh quickly settled on Tucker. "

F Gary Gray was the director - He was also working on Set it off at the time.
Witherspoon had already developed a career as a character actor.

Menace II Society & Boyz in the hood had just dropped in 93, did numbers.

They knew it was gonna be a classic & they knew it was going to be big - it wasn't like shottas where it was basically straight to VHS - it pulled $30M in box office in 95.

$30M in box office & Chris Tucker came home with like $15K in total. You can say "that's the deal he took" but it doesn't change the fact that the man doesn't like paying people.

Lol Chris wasn’t known back then. I watched a few a few of faizon’ s vlad interviews recently he said only cube was known..Bernie mac was coming up in the game and John Witherspoon was a guest at letterman’s a few times.

Chris Tucker actually bombed his auditor and only got his part cause another actor failed to show up. Regardless 90% of that cast was unknown.

The budget for that movie was 2 mill. Black films are about the only guarantee you’ll find in Hollywood yet they never get decent budgets. Nobody was gonna pay Chris Tucker back then.

Per the internet, the budget was $3.5 mil. Y'all (some not all) act like Cube was out here negotiating all contracts, casting actors, building sets, acting, directing and running the camera (maybe he was, maybe he wasn't). Has anyone mentioned any of the other producers involved in the production? I'll bet $10, it was that Patricia Charbonnet lady who was handling the budget....

List of Producers on Friday...
W.E. Baker... co-producer
Patricia Charbonnet ... producer
Helena Echegoyen ... co-executive producer
Ice Cube ... executive producer
DJ Pooh ... a*sociate producer
Andre Robinson Jr. ... a*sociate producer
James Tripp-Haith ... a*sociate producer
Bryan Turner ... executive producer

friday was a small indie film with no budget, nobody knew it was going to be what it became. Tucker and Witherspoon been eating off the notoriety of that movie for decades

no actor makes money their first movie

where do you n*ggas get info from?

but yeah, after the movie makes money you can kick money back to your people but you don’t have to

that’s the thing about ownership

nothing’s stopping actors from making their own movies
