CBS Sports: Jay Z is decades away from becoming an owner

View this post on Instagram

Story via CBS SPORTS - The narrative seems already established that media mogul Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter essentially has a handshake deal for partial ownership of an NFL team or is on a fast path to eventually having a team of his own. But that's not the case. Multiple people connected to NFL ownership and the league office have told CBS Sports that this TMZ-reported rumor is simply false, that there are no plans in place for the rap legend to become an NFL owner. The report was connected to the deal Carter's Roc Nation has to become the "live music entertainment strategist" for the NFL's major events. There was already enough to unpack in that. How will Roc Nation impact social justice campaigns with the NFL? How will this affect artists unwilling to work with the NFL in the aftermath of Colin Kaepernick's exit from the league? When and how will money be spent? How different will the Super Bowl halftime show look under Jay-Z's leadership? And unfortunately, the timing of the report, amid an already-charged atmosphere, has further complicated a murky situation which will take time to play out. Sources said it had people directly tied to the deal -- within the Roc Nation team and within the NFL offices -- scurrying to try to figure out who put the flawed info out there. Regardless, the deal does not include any ownership stake or parameters of a potential one. That's not to say that Jay-Z will not at some point get a piece of a team through his work with the league and its owners, but this is nothing like the situation between him and the Brooklyn Nets, where he paid the most nominal of fees to get a portion of the team while he campaigned for their move to that borough and served a particularly public function as the face of the franchise. Carter would have to be fully vetted and approved by membership, and he would have to divest himself of his growing athlete representation empire as well. "Those kinds of deals don't exist in the NFL," as one super-plugged in ownership-level source put it. "There is no ownership component to this arrangement."

Damn so not even the 5% talk I was hearing a few days ago? I would love for hov to get it and get kap at least a look. Also why don't most or not all of the players in the league start a foundation or fund specifically to help families who are directly effected by police brutality and injustice. Like stop waiting for the owners and the league Todo something. The players make millions and if enough of them put they money up I'm sure it would be more than enough to get that type of foundation up and running. Then they could raise alot of awareness and get even more funding from other interested people to help even more families at risk.

In the beginning this was about brothers getting k*lled by crooked cops, now it's going in all different directions and we picking sides and going at each other.

It's sad,cus athletes were motivated to do something(kneeling) but they did the wrong thing(kneeling).
All that did was make people choose sides.
These athletes and entertainers should've used their celebrity and platform to put pressure on politicians to change laws

Almost all of the cops ever charged in any of these shootings have been acquitted by juries, most don't even get to that stage
They should shift their focus from kneeling and use their money and celebrity to start a lobbying group to get laws in place that would make it easier to prosecute dirty cops

Entertainment and social justice still is a strange NFL combination

The type of manipulation Jay-Z and his shadow cronies will inflict from this will be worse than how Kap duped y’all.

The NFL is just the worst sport for a group of athletes to form a collective.

The career windows are small, the money isn't guaranteed, and it's easily the most replaceable when it comes to talent.

It's damn near impossible for players to walk off the field in football. The Patriots churn out the same Pro Bowler in a different number every year.

NBA players could walk off the court, fans aren't paying to see anything other than the stars. But football players? The culture of the sport is no man is bigger than the team. It's just a hard spot to be in, these cats have no money waiting for them if they get cut doing something social justice related.

Just watched Billions S02E04, when Axe was trying to get an NFL team and the rich guy tells him we knight people in this country with sports franchises and denies him.

Same episode Axe's wife says, Stringer I want my corners!
