"Tonight the Wu-Tang Clan will be doing a show in Seattle and I won’t be there. I know, it’s sad. It’s been a rough year for a guy with hospitalizations and what not, so I’ve been forced to miss out on a lot of events that I just naturally assumed that I would be attending, when I first heard them announced. Wu-Tang was definitely toward the top of that list, but I just never really got on top of setting anything up for it, time slipped past, and the show sneaked up on me. To deal with that reality, I’ve opted to employ the full-proof tactic where I completely ignore the whole thing as if it wasn’t happening at all. So far, I felt like it was going pretty well. “The Who-tang?!!” Yep. Everything was flowing along smooth until I was sifting through my emails today and noticed one particular message that read, quite simply, “New VIDEO! New Album!” The sender was credited as Ghostface killah.
Easily the most consistent member of the WU, Ghostface has also proven to be among the most prolific. Just since last year, alone, we’ve seen the Iron Man release a full length collaboration with Czarface, and an entirely new solo studio album, which he followed up with a double-LP remix of the whole thing re-imagined by 2 new producers. Keep in mind that this doesn’t take into account his work with the Clan, itself, or the features he’s supplied for others. And the most interesting thing about the man born Dennis Coles is that, he doesn’t only have an extensive catalog, but one that he’s packed full of variety. It’s hard to ever know what to expect next, from his Sour Soul collaboration with Canadian instrumental hiphop/jazz trio, BadBadNotGood; to 12 Reasons To Die parts 1 and 2, the Italian horror-styled concept records that he created alongside composer Adrian Younge. Anytime a new Ghostface release is so much as hinted at, it’s definitely something worth paying attention to.
And so… we’re paying attention.
Still, very little is known, but here’s the extent of the contents of the email:"
The video referenced — and featured below — is titled Conditioning Trailer 1 and has the sort of highly cinematic aesthetic one might expect to see from a legit full-on motion picture. The description, however, confirms that it is only a “Trailer for the first single “Conditioning” from the forthcoming album “Ghostface killahs” . Coming SOON.” Check out the quick 23-second preview below, which features Ghostdini rolling around in a stretched out Mercedez-Benz Sprinter 3500 conversion van limo, while donning Dead Presidents style facepaint with a crew of masked gunmen rocking US presidents masks in the vein of Point Break.
Since it’s become his style, I’m sensing another highly visual concept album on deck. But, for now, all we know for sure is… it’s ominous, son!"
