I love both eras of the 90’s but I can’t figure out which one is the best. Here’s a rundown of some of albums and tell me what y’all think

1991-The Low End Theory, death Certificate
1992-The Chronic, The Predator
1993-Doggystyle, 36 Chambers
1994-Illmatic, Ready to Die

1995-Me Against the World, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
1996-All Eyez on Me, Reasonable Doubt
1997-Life After death, Wu Tang Forever
1998-It’s Dark and Hell is Hot, Aquemeni
1999-I Am, 2001

95-96 might just be the two greatest years of hip hop period though.

can't really say... depends on if you was a fan of the transition of basic skills to advanced literature or more of a fan of the blueprint of the current downward spiral aka stagnant-land!

90-94 literally made 95-99 happen...........

it has to be 90-94 to me, if you lived in that time period when the music came out it was just so epic...... nothing like those albums had ever come out or been heard before....... illmatic, ready to die, 36 chambers, the chronic, low end theory.........

so for me I love the albums that followed up the second part of the decade but some of the fire gets taken off them joints because even though they were amazing, those type of rhymes had been heard before.

when illmatic dropped, people had literally NEVER heard someone rhyme like that ever before. the albums were just crazy unique to the time period, each one had a crazy unique vibe to it snoop/dre had the g-funk, wu tang had the karate, nas had the craziest sh*t anyone had ever heard, ready to die was puffy doing his thing w/ the soul samples and the whole 9. what a time to be alive....... drake sh*t was nothing like that.

respect due, family - but the 60s and 70s when people actually played instruments and more times were saying something

is just the recording technology wasn't as high fidelity and there weren't videos amping up promotion

james brown with his live band?
sly? bob marley?
sam, marvin, otis, stevie, artetha, roberta, gladys?
is no rapper puts words together better than jimi put notes together on guitar

i have to respectfully disagree bro

Honest question, do you see that downward spiral beginning in that period? Cause some truly stellar hip hop music was being made then
I see the millennium as the cut off line, don't get me wrong there was still good music being made then but like you says the downward spiral had begun
each to their own though, not saying you don't have perfectly valid reasons for thinking that the rot set in earlier on, I'd be interested to hear them...
