YouTube TV costs $50 per month after another price hike & new channels

YouTube TV isn't immune to the latest wave of rate hikes plaguing the streaming world. The Google-owned service has announced that it's raising the base monthly price to $50 ($55 if you subscribe directly through an Apple TV), effective immediately for new subscribers and from May 13th onward for existing customers. You'll at least get something for your trouble, though, as YouTube TV will finally offer a host of additional channels.

You now have access to eight Discovery channels that include the original as well as Animal Planet, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, MotorTrend, TLC and Travel Channel. Oprah Winfrey's OWN channel is coming later in 2019, and Epix's movie-oriented channel is available today if you're willing to spend extra.

The shake-up still represents a better bargain than most conventional TV subscriptions, and the Discovery expansion fills a large gap for curious types. This isn't going to please subscribers who've already had to endure a rate hike, though, and it could easily prove a headache for cord cutters who signed up for YouTube TV precisely to avoid paying for a growing number of channels they don't watch. While you're still likely to save money over cable or satellite, the difference won't be quite as clear as it was before.

Never heard of it but just looked and if you have more than one TV/device in the house, again, just pay for cable. I'll stick with my 1000Mbps and Kodi in every room...

the sh*t could be easily priced at $30 a month for life and the youtube cartel would still make money. no annual price hijacking or mysterious charges. espn or any sports package is $10 a month just by itself

I switched to YTTV some months back, not to pleased with the price raise cause I won't watch any of the additions.

But even such...I used to pay $155 for "cable". With price increase my internet/YTTV total is $95. So still cheap, I prefer the stability I guess.

Why I don't know I guess as I have some IPTV services too. Reloaded, Area-51, Primestreams, and off on Nitro.

YouTube doesn't actually control carriage fees which controls the pricing

And now AT&T is in trouble with it's investors after misleading them about their earnings.

definitely understand the hike. the new channels they added are expensive, although they were the last remaining channels people have been asking for

hulu is probably the best deal right now. their live tv is consistent. its $44/mo, but you also get original programming included. value added that ytv doesnt have

Way less than before, but ya... Ratings are still very high

Honestly I keep it mostly for sports (on network channels and ESPN, etc). And my wife still likes watching local news

This was my fear. Originally these were suppose to be a cheaper alternative for high a*s cable prices. If you had it at a certain price for all these years then why all of a sudden do they keep upping the prices.

But these companies know this is the future and will eventually replace satellites/cable and by that time the prices will just as high. Pains me how greedy these companies are and will never be happy with just providing a good service opposed to always trying to figure a way to squeeze an extra dollar out of the customers' pockets...

I always felt a couple years ago all these millions and billions of dollars being spent investing in streaming eventually these prices has to go up cuz content creators gotta get paid plus licensing fees and I think the inability run ads for premium services too, correct me if I'm wrong
