This is cool but I wanna know how they're gonna keep these things clean on the weekend and how they're gonna handle drunk people.

I've been told some crazy stories by Lyft drivers who avoid working for Lyft on Friday nights and the weekends because even though it's significantly more money (like they're making at least 50% more money driving on Friday night and the weekend than they do just driving during Sunday-Thursday) because wild drunk people trashing their car, pissing and puking it it and dropping their drugs in their car (if a cop pulls you over with a bag of weed in your backseat floor they do not care if it came from a passenger 2 rides ago or not, it's on you).

Yea I don't drive for Lyft or Uber but I never thought about that. This Uber driver that I got last week is retired and said he bought a separate vehicle just for Uber & Lyft

That sh*t is crazy. When my wife and I went to Vegas in July we took a self driving Lyft a couple times but there was still a person in the driver’s seat. I don’t know if I’m ready to trust no driver at all yet

I wonder what happens if a cops want to pull you over? Will the car know to stop? Will the cop give you the ticket?

I would.

I've been on planes, they have been flying themselves my whole life. The pilot is not necessary.

Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft. Global Hawk operates autonomously and "untethered".

A modern airliner like a 737 or an A320 can do both. However, the more commonly done thing is landing on autopilot. Taking off with autopilot is very simple in theory but is almost never done because if the aircraft is brought to the runway, lined up and the autopilot and autothrottle are engaged to maintain a said altitude and said speed the elevator will lock in an up position. This will cause the aircraft to tend to lift off long before V1 is reached which may risk stalling or worse, running out of runway.

So let's just say, takeoff is theoretically possible, but almost never done on A/P.

Landing is a different game altogether. Many modern airliners are capable of landing automatically but the aircraft also requires the airport to be CAT I, II or III compliant. These are varying categories of instrument landing systems installed at airports that can line an aircraft up with the runway and guide it down to a certain altitude. CAT III C is the most superior and can bring an aircraft down to the runway, have it touch down and the aircraft auto brakes and stops automatically. It's quite a remarkable achievement. Considering an Airbus A320 can be brought down, put on the runway and stopped in perpetually zero visibility conditions.
