Possible Trade Destinations For Antonio Brown

image
Oakland Raiders
Wait, why would one of the worst teams in the NFL trade for Antonio Brown? Because they need a star. The Raiders are moving to Vegas in the near future. It’s going to be hard for them to market themselves there if they don’t have a face of the franchise. Frankly, head coach Jon Gruden isn’t that guy, even if he wants to believe he is.

Brown, however, would be precisely what the Raiders need – a star. They have more than enough cap space to take on his contract. The Raiders also have three first-round picks in 2019 and two in 2020. That’s enough draft capital to at least get a serious conversation with the Steelers about Brown.

However, the last team the Raiders took on a diva wide receiver, it didn’t end well. Randy Moss wasn’t happy and Oakland eventually had to ship him out to the New England Patriots for a sub-optimal return. Also, could Gruden get someone like Brown to buy into his culture? He’s had trouble with star players in the past.

Also, is NFL draft guru and new Raiders general manager Mike Mayock going to be willing to trade first-round picks for Brown?

Oakland should have serious internal discussions about the risks and rewards a*sociated with trading for Brown. On one hand, he’d give Derek Carr one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL.

But on the other hand, Brown’s off the field concerns are masked by his outstanding production on the field. What happens if the soon-to-be 31-year-old receiver has already had his best years? All of that said, Oakland needs someone like Brown.

Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills didn’t do a good job of surrounding Josh Allen with talent. It’s hard to evaluate how well he did or where he is in his development because his top wide receiver was Zay Jones, who had just 652 yards. This is why the Bills finished with the second-worst passing offense in the NFL as far as yards and the worst in terms of touchdowns.

Recent NFL history shows that if you surround your young quarterback with talent, they are much better off. The Bills aren’t going to find a weapon more valuable than Brown. He’d instantly become the best receiver in the AFC East by a wide margin. It’s worth noting Brown has given the New England Patriots fits in the past despite the Pats focusing heavily on stopping him. The Bills have the cap space to make it happen.

However, much like the Raiders, would it be worth it for Buffalo to invest so much into one player? Especially one who is on the wrong end of 30? Brown might well be a receiver who can play at an elite level well into his 30’s. But boy, that’s a huge risk for the Bills to take. Because if it backfires on them, it would set them back for years.

image
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers have a ton of cap space along with a (hopeful) franchise quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo. Here’s the issue – their leading receiver in 2018 was George Kittle, who’s a tight end. Never a good sign when your leading receiver is a tight end. In fact, no other wide receiver on the 49ers had even 500 yards receiving.

Antonio Brown would be an absolute monster in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He’d instantly become their best receiving option and he’d open things up for the rest of their offense. Brown would cost them a bit of money, but the 49ers would still have well over $40 million of cap space to address their other needs even with his contract on the books.

However, if the Steelers want a first-round pick for him, that’s a bit hefty for the 49ers. Sure, they could have Pittsburgh toss in their first-round pick to even things up, but still, San Francisco has the number two pick. Is that something they’re going to be willing to part with?

Does mentioning an athlete who is currently employed by another team on Twitter count as tampering? Because, Brown, for what it’s worth, sure seems like he’d like playing with Kittle. The 49ers would have to get creative to trade for him, but Antonio Brown is a guy worth getting creative for.

Indianapolis Colts
No team in the NFL has more cap space going into the offseason than the Indianapolis Colts. They currently have over $100 million available with 40 players already signed. The Colts already have a great receiver in T.Y. Hilton, but one great receiver isn’t enough in today’s NFL. You need multiple great receivers. As many as possible. Other than Eric Ebron (who was a brilliant pickup), no other Colts player got to 500 receiving yards or three touchdowns.

Antonio Brown would make the Colts already impressive offense (fifth in points scored) even better. Indy has finally figured out how to protect Andrew Luck and give him the necessary offensive weapons for success. Brown, however, would be the icing on the cake.

Do the Colts need to address their defense too? Absolutely. But that’s the beauty of having over $100 million of cap space. You can make multiple huge moves. The Colts are a team to watch this offseason. They’re already a playoff team. The Colts have a great head coach in Frank Reich and the team’s buying into his culture. That’s important for any great team. Now it’s time for the Colts to add some significant pieces. Brown’s attitude shouldn’t be a problem because of their strong locker room.

image
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers should be extremely motivated to trade for Antonio Brown. They’ve failed to give Aaron Rodgers the weapons he needs to be a great quarterback. With their star quarterback aging, he needs more weapons. Imagine how good Rodgers would be if he had both Brown and Devante Adams to throw to.

Green Bay has over $40 million of cap space with 47 players signed, so they’ve got the cap space required to handle a big contract. More importantly, the Packers have something the Steelers would love to get for Brown – an extra first-round pick (the New Orleans Saints, to be specific). This gives them the flexibility to offer their own 12th overall pick for him in case the Saints is too low for the Steelers’ liking.

Now, acquiring Brown would be one of the last thing the Packers would have done under Ted Thompson. But since his departure, they’ve shown their old way of doing things is no longer around.

The biggest issue that could deny the universe a tandem of Rodgers and Brown? Currently, the Packers don’t have a full-time head coach. Joe Philbin is the interim coach, but they’re interviewing other options. If they make the right decision there, Brown could be wearing green and gold in 2019.

New York Jets
The New York Jets finally found a potential star to build their unit around in Sam Darnold after trading up for the former USC star last spring. Like most rookies, Darnold went through some of the struggles most players experience during their first year in the league, but also gave the Jets plenty to be excited about when seeing some of his performances.

Deep down, New York knew the 2018 season was going to consist of some struggles since the original plan was that Darnold was going to spend year one learning from the sidelines behind Josh McCown before he put together an impressive preseason.

The Jets realize in order for Darnold to reach his true potential in the NFL, it’s going to be important to build a better offense around him, kind of like the Philadelphia Eagles did with Carson Wentz and Los Angeles Rams with Jared Goff.

Unlike other teams, New York has the kind of money to spend in which they could afford to bring someone like Brown on board if the interest were there, which makes this scenario that much more interesting for the Jets.

Detroit Lions
The Lions need a spark on offense and Matthew Stafford needs the help. They have the cap room. Not sure Brown, who played college at Central Michigan, and Lions’ coach Matt Patricia would be a great fit, though.

Detroit struggled in the first season under Matt Patricia, ranking 23rd in Outsiders’ passing efficiency metric. The team traded receiver Golden Tate to the Eagles mid-season and while Kenny Golladay stepped up, there’s a need for more weapons outside. Theo Ridd*ck had the second-most catches on the team with Marvin Jones checking in at number four behind Tate who was traded after seven games.

The Lions have about $34 million in space at the moment so they have the capability to make a deal happen and most of their guys are locked in for next season.

image
Seattle Seahawks
Speaking of NFC West arms races, what a tandem Brown and Russell Wilson might make. Coach Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider have a history of gambles — Marshawn Lynch, Percy Harvin, Jimmy Graham — and this would certainly represent another for an organization that just underwent a significant reboot of its locker room in favor of younger, more impressionable players.

The Seahawks got good in a hurry. Russell Wilson deserves to play with a talent like Brown. The Seahawks do have the space for Brown with over $54 million according to OTC. Obviously, Seattle has gotten used to outspoken personalities in their locker room over the years, though they have cut down on a number of those guys in the last several. Russell Wilson had a strong year with the combination of Tyler Lockett and Doug Baldwin on the outside throwing for over 3,400 yards and 35 touchdowns with only seven interceptions this season.

Never a real "I'm bored. Lemme write an article" list without the raiders mixed in as a trade option

But at least this one makes sense. Antonio a top 5 wr with no exception. If Gruden can say look I got a huge fish before draft day even comes, holy sh*t. With the way the raiders put the world on Carr a presence like Brown would be awesome. And even with a couple rings Carr would never be on that Big Ben sh*t. Carr comes off like a God damn cheer leader. I hope he has an edge on the low. Like if Russell Wilson and Baker Mayfield make you look soft.. Lmao

we only got like 4 picks this coming draft, not much capital to work with there im afraid... Do you think he would mesh well in the locker room in Seattle?? Im worried he wouldnt be happy with how little we pass the ball... the 60 million dollars Seattle has in FA is a red herring too, they will be spending most of that to retain or extend guys already on the squad... Seattle has the lowest amount of returning players on the contract next season in the NFL, gotta re-sign a lot of those guys but still make moves in the 2nd and 3rd wave of FA.
