Donald Trump signs the Music Modernization Act

View this post on Instagram

After years of efforts by a host of major players in the music industry, the Music Modernization Act has officially become law with President Trump’s signature today. The MMA, which passed unanimously in the House and Senate this summer, brings large-scale reforms to the United States' decades-old copyright laws, making it easier for musicians to get paid for their work and streamlining the process for licensing music. - As ‘The Verge’ lays out, the legislation contains three main components. It will ensure that artists and songwriters are compensated for music recorded before 1972, allow music producers to receive royalty payments, and create a single, independent body that handles the entire licensing process between artists and streaming services. - Since the dawn of the streaming era, the music industry has been pushing for a copyright law update that simplified the process for artists to license their music and get paid. Unlike CD or digital sales, streams are considered a “public performance” of a song, and are governed under a separate type of mechanical license than commercial sales. - Confusion over how much a stream is worth for an artist or label, as well as how and where musicians receive their royalty payments, have compounded the issue. The MMA is designed to fix many of these problems. - Music industry figures including Recording Academy President Neil Portnow, RIAA President Mitch Glazier, Kid Rock, Mike Love of The Beach Boys, and Kanye West are in Washington D.C. with President Trump today. —@foxy_grandpa

All praise to my president.

Thats not the point.

The point is it helps musicians and artists. Yet, artists and musicians wont mention this as a good thing that Trump did for them, because it doesnt help the liberal medias agenda as painting Trump as the villain.

Word right?

Everything trump does it bad no matter what.

He could find a way to give everyone a million dollars, and Boxden will find a way to hate.

Same thing happened when he pardoned a bunch of black people. We found a way to hate.

The media has us brainwashed.

Of course! n*ggas been trying to get that done for some years now after the industry changed because artists complained...they never came up with a deal until now. Y'all acting like it was rejected numerous or even once before a president. Newsflash, presidents sign bills and this isn't something that would receive a no vote. It passed in the House and Senate in the summer, so this is all a formality. Trump's PR stunting really do be working on y'all mafu*kas...crazy

The 3rd point is the interesting one. When a streaming service signs up with the new licensing system they get the right to stream all copyrighted material. Not individual songs. I wonder how that will effect "exclusives" deals artists sign with streaming services. Will Spotify not stream music that is exclusive to Tidal. Even though they now have the right to with a blanket license.

Obama lifted the ban on HIV positive people visiting the USA

But nobody ever mentions his triumphs

I know people personally affected by this illness who got it by no wrong doing of their own and that sigh of relief for not being stigmatized by border patrol agents is worth so much to them and the world

Waiting on trump to do anything close to that

1. most presidents just sign a piece of paper thats in front of em. they don't come up with 97% of these bills

2. this is good for the artists and especially for producers to get royalties

if they been trying to get it done for years and it finally happened after Kanye supported Trump that doesn't mean anything?

Give Kanye his credit
