93/91 octane, you are WASTING your money. I just had this conversation with my wife for the 100th timeimageThere is no benefit, all you're doing is collecting tons of carbon buildup and decreasing your fuel efficiency and power due to your engine requiring more fuel to perform at the same level it would if you just put 87 in it. Your engine is unable to burn higher octane fuel efficiently because of lower compression ratios. You can put 87 in a vehicle that requires premium because most/if not all vehicles now have knock sensors. However, your performance will be reduced significantly.

For anyone that was wondering.

Just put the fuel the owner's manual tells you to put in folks.

I also blame the oil companies. They label 91/93 octane as "premium" as if it's better.

And then Chevron with that Techron BS. So it makes people believe that higher octane is better.

Thats a valid point as well. Thats how they get mfers. People NEVER read the owner's manual so that doesnt help either.

I don't care what car I drive, I pump regular.
But really my car is designed for 86 and higher octane even though it's over 20 years old. My next new car I probably won't use regular.

I have to put 93 in my car. I have a 2014 GLI. Vw told me if something were to go wrong with my motor and they test the gas and its not 93. Warranty voided.

I work for a Shell oil company, just use 87, Don't use 89, Also all the gas stations have the same gas when it comes to 87/89 (don't use 89), it has to be a certain spec regulated by the government and it all goes in 1 tank, which those gas trucks you see filling up gas stations take from, Also 93 is the only difference since it has different additives by Chevron/Shell/Phillip 66

You can put regular in your car if 93 isn't available, the ecu will compensate for it through signals from the knock sensors. From there the ecu can advance or retard timing to avoid knocking or pinging but Your engine wont be making the same power it does with 93. Just dont make it a habit.

Nah, especially if its turbocharged. It'll start pinging and run a little funny. you can put cheap gas in it in an emergency. Stick to 93.

Ot but let me tell u the time I put regulaur in my diesel and my drunk a*s taught I could drive home and it would be ok

Not even 2 mins leaving the gas station my Benz started to stall..I had to get that bi*ch towed & have my mechanic clean the injectors luckily the engine was Gucci

I get it. But this is not true for all cars. Some cars say use regular but it really be needing premium. I have a hyundai sonata where the evap purge valve goes and basically the car wont fire. When i fixed that sh*t i was told if you want to avoid that in the future use higher octane fuel. So i dont know.

I have a honda accord 2013 exl... manual suggests 87, BUT after time you may experience you engine knocking... why would I sign up for that?? I just use premium, and premium only.
